5 key workplace trends + NYS’s new legislation + NYC layoffs + event perks
January 24, 2019
Plus, a new addiction - from me to you.
Last chance to RSVP for our HR Breakfast next Wednesday. You can RSVP here. We’re talking 2019 HR Resolutions where everyone will be encouraged to share theirs over breakfast.
In related news, I’m excited to announce that the wonderful folks at GoCoach, League, CultureAmp, Lever, Snappy, Managed by Q, Lumity and Greenhouse are already supporting this year’s event as sponsors, allowing us to get you in the door cheaper. That means you can still access a 2-for-1 special as an email subscriber. Just enter code “Send2for1 and we’ll do just that (send you a free pass, that is).
In semi-unrelated (addiction) news, I’m wrapping up 2 weeks down south in Nashville, where the sun hasn’t shown itself until this morning. That meant lots of screentime, unfortunately. So I got some good work done, but a moment of weakness overcame me and I downloaded the first game on my iPhone in years. It’s called “Forever Lost,” and is essentially a virtual “Escape Room”. Which is to say, absurdly addicting (my wife gave me “the look” one too many times on this trip).
In case you’ve already looked it up, I recommend avoiding the “GET” button.
Thanks, people, because last week was email #100 and I believe the first email without a single unsubscribe. Thank you. Especially folks that want to unsubscribe, but are too lazy to hit the unsubscribe link (I know your pain).
***Stay on top of workplace trends (partner tip)***:
Additional thanks to the fine folks at Managed by Q (in particular one of my favorite people on earth, author and content pro, Eleanor Whitney) for releasing the 2019 Workplace Trends Report. This report identifies the five major trends that employers must effectively integrate into their workspace to stay relevant, especially as workplace culture and technology rapidly evolve. Download the report (free) here.
In the News:
BuzzFeed and Verizon Media have laid off loads of talent, unfortunately. Start your engines, people, because many smart folks are now on the market.
After 15 years in the making, NYS finally passed the Gender Expression Non-Discrimination Act (GENDA). Learn more here.
UVA, received an enormous $120m donation to build a school dedicated entirely to data science. So if you’re thinking of sending your kids to Virginia Tech, Duke or UNC, THINK AGAIN PEOPLE!
HR: If any of you are looking for a FT tech recruiter based in Philly, drop me a line.
That’s all, folks
I’d love it if you’d share this newsletter as a suggestion to your HR & TA pals on LinkedIn. Anyone can subscribe here.
