A Stroll Through NYC Uncubed

November 16, 2015 By admin

This Fall’s NYC Uncubed was one for the books.

Apart from selling out one week in advance, we also welcomed the teams behind newcomers (all making a huge splash in the NYC tech scene) like Jet.com, FanDuel, and SeatGeek; introduced two simultaneous tracks of Edge Live content; and gathered together 80 top executives from our hiring startups.

Let’s take you on a walk through the day…

You enter the doors of the Metropolitan Pavilion and proceed up the steps for live education straight from startup leaders. The Main Stage is decorated as an old school pharmacy (portraying the past in Uncubed’s theme of “NYC – Past, Present, & Future”).

Damayanti Dipayana (pictured below), Client Strategy Director at Qubit, takes the stage for “Jobs. And I Ain’t Talking About Steve” (would you expect any less of an awesome title from an Uncubed company?).

Meanwhile two floors up on the tech stage (decked out as one of NYC’s most famous parks), Mike Hanrahan (pictured below), CTO of Jet.com, is leading “Running Tech Debt: Don’t Let it Catch Up to You” and Courtney Sanchez, VP of BI & Analytics at Vimeo is soon to follow with “A Test-Driven Approach to Feature Development”.

At 1pm sharp, you’re let loose into the Field where the teams of over 80 hiring companies have set up – eager to meet you.

The BuzzFeed team is as vibrant as ever (only this time with $200 million from NBC under their belt), while the swagged out Jet.com bar is shining in purple…and filled to the brim with ice cold Radebeger.

You’re not sure whether to kick it with the Capital One team at their 90’s inspired arcade next…

capital one

…or channel your inner rodeo star with the Offerpop team (and their inflatable horses).

After sharing a beer and talking shop with your dream teams, you proceed back upstairs for the afternoon panels. Experts from SOLS, Spring, WeWork, and Priceline talk Emerging UX Standards (life after the hamburg that is…) followed by the ultimate tech hiring panel.

John McKinney, CTO of Aol, Gemma Barow, iOS Lead at Harry’s, and Joe Sepi Crane-Messia, Hiring Manager at Behance (Adobe) dive into the in’s and out’s of the tech interview…giving you insight you simply cannot find anywhere else, moderated by the wonderful Nick Shiftan, CTO of Curalate.

The content comes to a close as Bounce Exchange, Animoto, and Sailthru take you on a journey into the future…of content marketing that is.

Meanwhile, a few floors above you, the Executive Lounge is underway. Top execs including DigitalOcean’s Co-Founder/CEO, SeatGeek’s Co-Founder, BuzzFeed’s VP of Data Engineering, WeWork’s VP of Engineering, Contently’s VP of Engineering, & many more are tasting Irish whiskey (Teelings, of course), and engaging with a select group of 100 attendees about exec-level career opportunities.

But the party certainly doesn’t end there. The 4th floor opens up for the Uncubed Happy Hour where all floors with all guests – companies and attendees included – gather for continued conversation over music and drinks.

happy hour

It’s been a full day of connecting with the NYC tech world and all of its inhabitants, learning cutting-edge skills in digital, and discovering new opportunities.

You can now say you’ve officially been Uncubed.
