Two inspiring voices + Owning mistakes openly + Exec HR opportunities + Fully distributed teams

We brought the beach to Vegas...

Folks, I’m keeping this short(er) because a.) I forgot to send this yesterday and b.) I’m about to go on a hike in Joshua Tree.

This past week was HR Transform in Las Vegas and if I’ve learned anything about attending last year, it’s that you should take advantage of the national parks nearby and get some much-needed nature in the raw.

But I won’t run out of here without first sharing some interesting HR news with you all.

To start, despite nearly dying after conducting a 3-hour afternoon employer branding workshop on 3 hours sleep and only a morning juice to sustain me, I enjoyed myself immensely at HR Transform. Plus, the Uncubed team went whole hog on a beach theme this year. Check out all the fun we (and some of our HR friends) had at the #hyrefest booth.

Get Inspired: In perhaps the best news of the month (for me, at least), one of my heroes and a true inspiration for millions across the world, Shaun King will be speaking at HR Uncubed. King is an extremely influential & progressive civil rights activist, and co-founder of Real Justice PAC and The North Star, a new media company focused on liberation journalism.

The great news doesn’t stop there, as the current CEO of Thinx, Maria Molland, will also be joining us at the conference to share her story on turning around the culture at one of today’s most popular modern retail brands.

Remote vs. Distributed. What the what? I joined in on a wonderful panel about remote work and distributed teams with leadership at Github, Elastic & Invision. In the likely scenario that you missed it, this article on the difference between remote work and fully distributed will be very helpful (thx Hung Lee).

The science of admitting we are wrong: One thing that has always rubbed me the wrong way is when folks make their point by saying “you can’t argue with science”. Sure you can. That’s the point of science, which is a process riddled with missteps, incorrect analysis, false claims, etc. Admitting we are wrong is a powerful trait of great leadership and successful teams. So, in this TED video, learn the secret to scientific discoveries: making mistakes.

Exec HR leadership: Are you in need of a CPO or VP of HR? Drop me a line, I’ve got some heavy-hitting folks waiting in the wings.

Exec HR leadership #2 (heavily related): if you’re an executive HR professional looking for a new, unique (and unpublished) opportunity (in NYC), drop me a line.

That’s all for now, friends. I’ll dig into some great content for you all next week. In the meantime, HR jobs are below!

Best,

Tarek
