Not to mention, a killer HR job (video).

First, a big thank you to Diamond McClintock from WMG for the very thoughtful post on Linkedin promoting this newsletter. Again, this is practically the only way it grows, so I very much appreciate it.

Starting today, I’m taking a few days off to adventure into the Chapada. After visiting Zion National Park after last year’s HR Transform conference (Uncubed is a sponsor this year, folks. LMK if you’ll be there) I fell head over heels in love with nature in this form. Chapada feels like Brazil’s Zion. Can’t wait.

Employee Mechanisms (that work?): Facebook may never leave the hot seat again. And that’s probably a good thing, if, like me, you feel the platform has done more harm than good. In any event, this pressure has sparked a very non-capitalistic move by Zuck, tying bonuses to positive social impact. This should work, so long as Facebook’s current and future idea of positive social impact is entirely unrelated to their historical take on the matter.

Related – Social Media killing your social life?: If you’ve even lent a passing ear to the soccer news in the past two years, you’ll know that a fellow Egyptian, Mohamed Salah, has taken the game by storm and is regarded as one of the top players on the planet at the moment. A few weeks ago, he got off social for 2 weeks to “get in touch, for real”.  Well, low and behold, it was part of a rather emotional social campaign by DHL.

Can’t wait for smart talent marketing videos to hit the airwaves the way product marketing videos do. If you’re up for the challenge, reach out!

Related Listen: A bit soccer heavy this week (#sorrynotsorry), but this OnBeing podcast featuring writer and philanthropist Glennon Doyle and her wife, soccer legend Abby Wambach is a must listen as they discuss their trials and tribulations with relationships and work. Abby, for one, discusses the difficulties of being one of the most decorated female soccer players in history and the world’s leading international goal scorer (that includes men), but, post-retirement, must keep working to make a living.

Thanks for lending an ear. Speak to you next week,

I’d love it if you’d share this newsletter as a suggestion to your HR & TA pals on LinkedIn. Anyone can subscribe here.
