After learning that most recent grads do not negotiate salary, I wanted to investigate more as to why.
The biggest reason seems to be that folks get excited at the sight of a job offer post college and don’t want to say or do anything to jeopardize it.
I invited Jeremy Buentello, Staffing Lead at Google, and Bie Aweh, Learning & Development Consultant, to talk more about how to effectively negotiate, even with little to no experience.
One of the main takeaways from this panel is “it never hurts to ask” and to “remain humble” when doing so. We address how to leverage competing offers, how to avoid throwing out a number first, and how to initiate negotiations and strengthen your ask. It was interesting to have a coaching perspective and the perspective of a recruiter to provide the ultimate recipe to leverage more money/better perks. Check it out below!
