August 8: NYC Summer Mixer, 6:30PM
Summertime rooftop networking might be the pinnacle of all meet-and-greets the city has to offer. Do It In Person is hosting this open air press-the-flesh event with story telling, demos, and happy hour specials. Uber is offering car service to first time users to and from the event. August 9: Investor Feedback Forum, 6:30–8:30PM
Pizza, pitches, and prizes —the August Investor Feedback Forum hosted by Ultra Light Startups. Eight startups pitch and get feedback from VCs, while you watch. Lineup includes: GabbleOn which teaches foreign language via daily news,HomeSwap, which lets you trade homes for weeks at a time, and Fantasy Buzzer, which pings you about injuries and lineups for your fantasy teams. August 10: Green Breakfast Club, 8:30AM – 10:30AM
The Green Breakfast Club meets to talk green biz once a month. August’s keynote is Ron Gonen, co-founder of Recyclebank and NYC’s first-ever Deputy Commissioner for Recycling. He’ll discuss success and failure, and then the floor goes to the community for a brief “gives” and “asks” exchange. $20 tickets, here.

August 10: Thrillist Speed Dating For Startups Application Due 11:59PM EST
Train the camera on your mug and get talkin’. Thrillist and Samsung are hosting a “speed dating for startups” competition. You’ve got 30 seconds to pitch your idea on camera. User voting produces finalists, then the winner is picked by a team including David Tisch and Ben Lerer. Victor gets a launch package with design and PR services, 9 laptops, plus coverage on Thrillist. Take one, here.

August 11: Tilt Cookout
Tilt takes the hackathon and spins up the brainstorm element and dials down the tech (all the way down to zero, in fact). Teams compete for prizes based on idea creativity and for winning challenges — the target being to drive free thinking without the intensity of an actual product build. $40 will get you all-you-can-eat smoked ribs, chicken, and veggies and homemade hot sauce, plus homebrewed beer.
