Affirm: Delivering Honest Financial Products


Affirm is reinventing credit to make it more honest and friendly, giving consumers the flexibility to buy now and pay later without any hidden fees or compounding interest.

When consumers decide they want to use Affirm to make a purchase at their favorite e-commerce site or brick-and-mortar store, our Checkout product is their entry point into the Affirm ecosystem. It allows users to complete the transaction by using an Affirm loan, letting people spread the cost of a large purchase over time.  It is the primary acquisition and engagement channel for Affirm and includes identity, loan application, and loan authorization components. As a member of the Core Checkout team, you will have the opportunity to create a delightful first impression for our customers and drive significant impact on key business metrics by building personalized user experiences, with a focus on user segmentation and rapid experimentation.

Trust and confidence is fundamental to Affirm, and the Identity Product Manager is charged with ensuring that trust and safety for all customers within the Checkout experience. The primary mission for the Identity team is to enable prospective Affirm customers to create accounts and complete purchases with the appropriate fraud and risk checks, thereby protecting our users’ profile and accounts. The challenge and opportunity is to enable a delightful yet secure experience for our customers.

What you'll do

  • Be the product leader driving our strategic product and technology vision for Identity and Fraud
  • Relentlessly improve the user experience of the account creation and checkout funnel - the primary acquisition and engagement channel for Affirm
  • Push forward Affirm’s user segmentation product strategy by partnering with Analytics and UX Research to form a comprehensive view of our customer base and influence product strategy
  • Collaborate across multiple functional groups - including design, engineering, data science, credit risk, sales, and legal - to successfully define, launch, and scale new products and features
  • Employ experimental design best practices to robustly test data-driven hypotheses and measure the impact on Core Checkout team metrics
  • Dive into the risk-based nuances of a hyper-growth FinTech company, including Identity, Fraud, Credit, Underwriting, Pricing, and Repayment
  • Be an expert on trends in consumer finance, socializing insights with the broader team, and using that knowledge to influence the Core Checkout team roadmap

What We Look for

  • Passion and drive to change consumer finance for the better
  • Track record of successfully launching and growing software products and services
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with a talent for articulating customer pain points
  • A get-things-done attitude to make your product and team successful, whether that means writing a QA plan or investigating the root cause of a customer support ticket
  • Obsesses over getting the details right but knows how to ship on time
  • Being able to turn incomplete, conflicting, or ambiguous inputs into solid action plans
  • Familiarity with SQL and Excel for product and user analysis
