Senior Project Manager

Aptos, United States - Remote or Canada - Remote

Engaging customers differently… no matter when, where or how they shop.

A quick snapshot…

As a Senior Project Manager in Aptos’ professional services organization, you’ll deliver retail implementation projects on time, on budget and to the agreed upon scope to ensure project success. This is a client facing role, so you’ll also be playing a key role in delivering an exceptional customer experience.

Why it’s a big deal...

If we’re truly going to engage our customers differently, we need to make sure their professional services requests meet and exceed their expectations. The quality of our work and how we engage with our teams is what sets us apart. As a project manager, you’ll help deliver successful projects with exceptional customer experience. The overall success of the professional services organization depends on it.

Are you the person we’re looking for?

Proven experience in project management. This one’s important. You have successfully planned, organized, led and monitored activities of project teams. You’ve maintained overall control of the schedule, budget and scope, and ensured project plans and work products are based on approved, agreed-upon requirements. You ensure resources and funding are available for executing all project activities. You’re also no stranger to preparing management deliverables (project plans, project change requests and project lists) and using these deliverables to conduct the Project.

Client-facing skills and experience. This is also a must. It’s important that you genuinely enjoy working with clients and building relationships with them. It’s not enough to simply be nice to others or enjoy working with others -- the right person will be truly interested in getting to know our projects and our clients’ teams in an effort to provide the highest levels of service and support.

Strong communication skills.  You’re completely comfortable engaging in collaborative (and sometimes difficult) discussions. You’re skilled at reading and adapting to different communication styles. When you speak you are clear and concise and, most importantly, transparent. Your strong listening skills foster connection with your audience. You’re accustomed to notifying the client project director and client project manager of non-resolvable issues and submitting recommendations to resolve them. You maintain regular contact with our clients’ project managers, as well, providing updates of project progress and answering any related questions.

Documentation skills. You know better than anyone that good tools are only effective if they’re used correctly. You have experience tracking the status of deliverables, project change requests and outstanding issues. You’ve ensured that any commitments and subsequent changes are negotiated with affected groups -- and that the appropriate documents and project work plans are updated to reflect changes in requirements and commitments.

Here’s what will give you an edge…

Related experience and skills. Of course, prior experience as a project manager in a retail software environment is a huge plus -- as is PMP certification.

You love troubleshooting. Seriously. You’re savvy and can easily understand that successful projects require successful problem-solving skills. You ensure problems are dealt with promptly and resolved effectively.

Passion. We know it when we see it. Passion is not saying how much you love what you do in your most excited voice. Passion is revealed in your truest self. It’s about what you’ve accomplished; how you want to grow; the ideas you have; your philosophies. It’s demonstrating through your words and your actions that you truly believe in what you do -- and where you work. That it matters to you. And that’s pretty cool.

Resourcefulness and application. At Aptos, we have a pioneering spirit -- when we have questions, we find answers; when we’re faced with challenges, we find solutions. We turn to a variety of resources, including our own colleagues, our professional network, the Internet, articles and books -- whatever helps us get the job done. But it’s not just about using a variety of resources to gain knowledge -- it’s also about applying that knowledge to other areas of the job or business where it might make sense.

Initiative. You don’t wait around for things to happen or for your manager to tell you what to do. You’re not only proactive about completing your own work, but when you sense the need to introduce a project that will benefit the team or the organization -- even if it’s outside your scope of work -- you put a proposal together, talk to the team about it, and own it. And that also goes back to having a pioneering spirit.

Did we pique your interest?

If this sounds like the kind of job you would love in the kind of environment you would thrive in, please drop us a line -- we’d love to hear from you!
