About the role:

Birchbox is looking for a well-established VP of Beauty Merchandising & Brand Development with strong experience and relationships to take our subscription and e-commerce business to the next level.  We need an inspirational leader to own brand partnerships, subscription box sampling, online shop merchandising, and in-house brand development strategy. You will report to the Chief Customer Officer and manage a growing team of 12 Merchants working out of our New York office.

Your responsibilities will include….

  • Merchandising
    • Bring a strong perspective on how merchandising can impact and drive forward overall company vision
    • Establish and drive execution toward a long-term strategic vision for our box and e-commerce shop assortment to truly differentiate Birchbox in the market and uniquely meet the needs of our casual beauty target customer
    • Leverage existing relationships to pitch and onboard top tier and cult prestige beauty brands, building long-term relationships to enhance our monthly subscription experience for our customers and accelerate our e-commerce revenue growth
    • Lead the team to effectively source large quantities of high-quality deluxe sample and travel-sized products each month, working toward aggressive sales targets and within a strict budget
    • Build upon a strong partnership with the Planning team to further our collective goals as a business - managing across KPIs for both departments
    • Effectively manage a large budget, reporting out on the ROI of investments and  identifying opportunities to optimize resourcing
  • Brand Development
    • Use trends and knowledge about competitive landscape to develop vision and roadmap for potential new in-house brands and product lines/extensions
    • Lead idea generation and creative development processes with key cross teams (Product Development, Merchants, Design, Marketing) to conceptualize brands and their evolution.
    • Develop & manage key KPIs for success.
    • Managing P&L and oversee cost of production
    • Lead negotiations with business partners and vendors
    • Develop a plan for the structure of the team and organization
  • Executive Leadership
    • Lead the team by supporting and coaching to ensure effective day to day execution, actively managing career development and growth
    • Collaborate across teams to drive toward key company-wide strategic initiatives, including Marketing, Product Management, Operations, and Tech
    • Become a trusted advisor to the global Birchbox leadership team, including helping advise and coach our lead Buyers / Merchants in Europe
    • Contribute significantly to the strategic direction and overall vision of the company, including outside area of direct responsibility/expertise, bringing high-quality ideas to the table to continue to disrupt the beauty industry via continual innovation
    • Serve as an external representative/spokesperson for Birchbox

Your qualifications should include…

  • 12+ years experience as a merchant, with a strong digital/e-commerce background
  • Beauty experience strongly preferred
  • Brand/product development experience preferred
  • Strong people management and team leadership required
  • Experience managing large budget / P&L
