Software Engineer - Processing Efficiency

Blend, San Francisco

We stand for better lending

Blend makes the process of getting a loan simpler, faster, and safer. With its industry-leading digital lending platform, Blend helps financial institutions like Wells Fargo and U.S. Bank increase productivity and deliver exceptional customer experiences. The company processes nearly $2 billion in loans daily, helping millions of consumers get into homes and gain access to the capital they need to lead better lives.

Lending is fundamentally a data collection and processing problem. From start to finish, the mortgage process involves collecting hundreds of pages of documentation containing thousands of data points and using this information to decide whether an application merits funding. Before Blend, this documentation was placed on a person's desk and manually sifted through to determine additional information needed to be provided piecemeal. In total, this painstaking back and forth process can take several months, sometimes much longer.

The Processing Efficiency team builds and is responsible for the end-to-end experience of determining and surfacing additional requirements. You will help build and deploy services that work with Blend's third-party integrations, workflow engine and more, to provide seamless real-time feedback to borrowers on their path to securing a loan. Our services use the data collected via Blend's workflows and integrations to automatically flag information that warrants explanation or additional documentation. We then ask relevant follow-up questions to collect this information, thereby removing the feedback loop that borrowers and loan officers endure to close loans today. With the work our team does, a borrower will be able to complete an approval-ready loan in minutes, not months. Backend and Full-Stack Engineers will find our problem domain most exciting.

About Blend

At Blend, we’re dedicated to improving consumer lending. We partner with banks and lenders to power frictionless, compliant, and more accessible lending— starting with mortgages. We’re motivated by the fact that our product won’t just affect the lives of a few people in the Bay Area— it affects people all over America. Founded in 2012 by a group of former Palantir engineers, Blend raised $100M from Greylock and Emergence Capital in the summer of 2017. We've just moved into new offices in SF and NY, we're growing quickly, and we're going to need some help.
