Sales Lead, Original Programming (New York)

BuzzFeed is looking for a dynamic, entrepreneurial, video sales lead with a passion for advertising to lead the sales and business strategy for BuzzFeed Entertainment Group at a national level. This role will report to the SVP of Global Agency Development, with a dotted line to the Head of Development for BFEG.

The Sales Lead, Original Programming is a senior team member fluent in the language of both the sales and advertising market, in particular, the television editorial/audience building world.  The true north for this role is scaling the ad-supported video business. This person will work closely with the Sales and Production/Creative orgs to arrive at solutions and thinking that result in increased revenue. This person will also act as a resource to communicate these opportunities in-market to agency executives.  The sales lead will also be responsible for regularly reporting on and painting a clear picture of the opportunities, challenges we're facing and revenue realities of the video business for Sales, Edit and Executive Leadership at BuzzFeed.  

Successful candidates should have strong experience both in television/video ad sales. Candidates must be comfortable working at high levels with clients and agencies.

Responsibilities:

  • Position and articulate the value and ROI of BuzzFeed Entertainment Group to senior advertising executives to build relevant advertising solutions that leverage BuzzFeed’s video audience(s) and offerings
  • Identify opportunities for upsells and new business strategies for BuzzFeed original video programming.
  • Develop messaging and narrative for BuzzFeed’s suite of programming and digital audiences against competing digital entities, as well as other media vehicles.
  • Work with brand marketers to significantly and positively impact the development of marketing partnerships with BuzzFeed Shows.
  • Collaborate with BuzzFeed Entertainment Group and Product teams to develop and launch new brand marketing opportunities

Requirements:

  • 7+ years experience working with brands and agencies to promote and sell digital video.
  • Extensive experience in digital sales, including direct management experience preferably within television.
  • Understanding of video content marketplace and how to use data and insight to drive revenue
  • Proven track record to sell digital video to a television buying audience.
  • Ability to attract, retain and develop salespeople at all levels.
  • Results orientated and proven performance
  • Proven ability to scale and manage large partnerships
  • Strong negotiation, influencing skills and an ability to persuade at all levels of an agency or client.
  • An entrepreneurial spirit and innovative mindset to leverage all the amazing possibilities at BuzzFeed.
  • Excellent experience at dealing with C-Suite contacts in both agencies and clients
  • Ability to think on your feet and ideate on the spot as opportunities develop fast.
  • A team player that will enjoy working with other highly talented sales execs who are on a mission to build this business.
  • Preferred experience operating in a cross functional global organization.
