This is an opportunity to be one of the foundational members of the Data Engineering function at Canva; taking ownership of our Data Warehouse to derive business value and contribute to the delivery of rich features and functionality to our millions of users around the world.


  • Hands-on development, tuning, and overall management of our newly acquired Data Warehouse platform
  • Responsibility for the continued development of new features, functionality, and optimisation from raw data ingestion, to the access and modelling layer, through to maintaining the visualization layer
  • Providing functional and technical subject matter expertise with respect to data management, business intelligence, and reporting to internal stakeholders across the Canva business
  • Responsibility for managing planning and delivery of Data projects and initiatives across the wider business; in conjunction with Experiments, Product Analytics, and the Machine Learning Team

Required Skills & Experience

  • A demonstrated grounding in the Data Warehousing domain - experience building and managing large data warehouse and data mart environments
  • Hands-on experience developing ETL Pipelines with open source tools such as Airflow, Luigi, etc
  • Demonstrated experience working with large volumes of data across in-house and third party data warehousing platforms running in *nix environments
  • Demonstrated understanding of the Hadoop ecosystem and related technologies: HDFS, Yarn, Hive, Presto, Impala, etc
  • Experience developing and designing dashboards and reporting systems.
  • Previous software engineering Experience in OO, functional, or scripting languages - Java, Scala, Python, Bash, etc
  • Experience with cloud-based infrastructure and associated tools on Amazon Web Services (preferably), Google Cloud, or Azure
  • Familiarity with a wide set of Data Warehouse architectures and methodologies, schemas, and performance / optimization principles
  • Excellent written & and verbal communication and collaborative skills
