Coursera, Mountain View, CA

Education-focused technology company

Coursera was founded in 2012 with the purpose of transforming lives through learning. Coursera is redefining higher education by providing universal access to content and credentials from the world’s best universities.

As the world’s leading platform for higher education, Coursera helps universities create high quality online courses that have reached 29 million learners worldwide. From Stanford to the National University of Singapore, we've partnered with over 150 elite universities around the globe and currently feature over 2,000 courses on subjects ranging from data science to anthropology. The typical course experience includes videos, interactive online exercises, peer graded homework, applied projects, and an opportunity to collaborate with a global community of learners. Learners can audit courses for free and pay for assessments and certificates of completion they can use to advance their careers.

In 2016, we began offering fully accredited online Masters degrees which provide a more convenient, lower-cost, “stackable” means of earning credentials identical to their traditional on-campus counterparts. We now have over 1,500 enrolled degree learners paying approximately $20,000 each for Masters degrees in Business, Accounting, Computer Science, and Entrepreneurship.

Our new CMO will be responsible for all aspects of marketing strategy and execution, using digital channels to acquire new learners and activate existing learners. As a multi-sided platform, we require a CMO who can understand and message to multiple audiences in an ecosystem of learners, educators, and employers. Coursera has a unique offering and value proposition, and success will require more clearly articulating the value of traditional and emerging learning credentials, from free courses to $20,000 degrees.
