Mechanical Design Engineer

DiDi Labs, Fremont, California

DiDi Labs is working to solve the world’s most challenging problems.


  • Develop electro-mechanical products from initial concept to successful launch
  • Work together with internal hardware team members to develop and verify mechanical solutions mainly including PCBA and metal enclosure to meet product requirements
  • Work together with external contract manufacturers to make your design real
  • Conduct conceptual and detailed design, detailed modelling and drawings, BOM and release them to suppliers for quote, prototype and production
  • Off the shelf mechanical hardware components selection
  • Build and check prototypes and fix issues during review stage. Adjust design and make mockups or modify existing parts when new requirements or issues pop up
  • Compose documentation and deliver technical presentations
  • Communicate with suppliers in piece part design requirements, part mods, samples review/inspection results, product delivery dates
  • Define product build timelines. Master track list to record issues with details
  • A proven record of the successful product design jobs. A brief portfolio including your past successful projects will be welcomed



  • BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering
  • 3+ years’ experience in design of piece parts, modules, subsystems, top assembly
  • 3+ years’ experience in CAD tools

Preferred qualifications:

  • 3+ years’ experience designing rotating machineries and in the field of motor design, modeling, analysis, or control
  • 8+ years’ experience in design engineer role
  • 8+ years’ experience in Creo or Solidworks
  • Experience in the whole product development cycle from concept to production
  • Experience in PCBA, sheet metal stamping, injection molding plastic, aluminum extrusion, machining, die casting, mechanisms, system integration, air delivery and knowledge of manufacturing processes 
  • Experience in building/modifying prototypes, resolving issues, performing tests, fixing DFM/DFA, supporting production
  • Understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing. Tolerance analysis of high complexity and precision mechanical designs
  • Hands-on workshop experience
  • Mandarin is a bonus due to the frequent communications with vendors
