Role Description

The mission of Hardware Engineering team is to partner with the rest of Infrastructure Engineering teams to build efficient, reliable & durable infrastructure at Dropbox. The work that goes into spreads across four main areas:
  • Define, validate, deploy & support the best hardware classes for all tiers to achieve best performance, tco, reliability & availability for Dropbox infrastructure.
  • Define and build the needed Hardware Telemetry tools that will help hardware team and all our partners & customers achieve our reliability & quality metrics
  • Support the Serving teams to achieve the best performance for every hardware class through collaboration on performance profiling, kernel selection, and optimizations
  • Collaborate with external technology vendors to help us achieve our Infrastructure goals

Responsibilities

  • Work with middleware (firmware, drivers, utilities) for various types of motherboards and components in order to install, upgrade, and query data
  • Develop against existing frameworks for Hardware testing and validation
  • Maintain existing code, run bug fixes for Hardware Checker, Facelift and other initiatives.
  • Establish TDD for initiatives and retro-fit existing code where needed
  • Partner with customers to identify and prioritize needs
  • Manage Interrupts for tooling and quick-fixes

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of Python experience (or similar languages like GO, Perl, Ruby)
  • Basic understanding of databases (both schema and schema-less)
  • General understanding of hardware and the relationship between firmware, drivers, utilities and the components.
  • Data collection, mining, graphing, and statistics analysis
  • Understanding of Chef/Puppet configuration management systems
  • Experience working with Linux and Bash/Shell Scripting
  • TDD
