THE CHALLENGE
Eventbrite's business continues to grow and scale rapidly, powering millions of events. Event creators and event goers need new tools and technologies that empower them to create/have some of the most memorable of life’s moments, live experiences. One of our most important elements in achieving our company goals is our people. As an engineering manager you’re responsible for the careers, productivity, and quality (among other things) of Eventbrite’s builders. On the Platform Insights team, you and the team you hire will be a key part of Engineering's success. You will focus on providing visibility into how our systems are performing by tracking the metrics that matter. You will work throughout our codebase and product to ensure that we are gathering the correct data and displaying it in consistent ways. 

THE TEAM
We're a people-first Engineering organization: the women and men on our team value working together in small teams to solve big problems, supporting an active culture of mentorship and inclusion, and pushing themselves to learn new things daily. Pair programming, weekly demos, tech talks, and quarterly hackathons are at the core of how we’ve built our team and product. We believe in engaging with the community, regularly hosting free events with some of the top technical speakers, and actively contributing to open source software (check out Britecharts as an example!). Our technology spans across web, mobile, API, big data, machine learning, search, physical point of sale, and scanning systems. This role is based in Eventbrite’s Madrid office. We’re one of 6 Eventbrite engineering offices around the world.

THE ROLE
We’re looking for a people-centric and technical manager to help support the career growth of our engineers and collaborate on improvement within our organization.
As an Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for the success of business objectives in Platform Insights, the technical decisions of the team and the quality and uptime of metrics collection across the organization.

Leadership and Management: 
- Builds technical capabilities of the team, growing the technical and personal skills of those reporting into them and guiding their career paths
- Proactively manages performance within the team
- Staffs the team to be diverse and technically excellent, setting it up to produce at a high quality and velocity
- Communicates technical direction, roadmap, and strategy to the team, ensuring everyone understands how their work fits in to the broader picture
- Finds opportunities to improve the effectiveness of the team
- Helps the team work through difficult technical problems, ensuring they are not blocked on technical tasks and projects
- Builds their network with partnerships outside of the immediate team
- Works across the whole engineering organization to ensure alignment and consistency, establish standards and guidelines, and resolve cross-organizational issues

THE SKILL SET

  • Demonstrated experience in recruiting a well-rounded, diverse technical team
  • You have a strong technical background and can contribute to design and architectural discussions - coach first, player second
  • You support your team in providing context and connecting it with how the team impacts the organization
  • Experience working with a highly collaborative environment, coaching a team who ships code to production often
  • With the help of other engineering managers, you develop a sustainable, healthy work environment which is both encouraging and challenging
  • In a leadership/management position for 2-5 years with demonstrated growth of high-functioning engineering teams
