Business Development Lead

The Business Development Lead will be responsible for creating and executing a customer acquisition strategy.  Reporting directly to the CEO, this individual will create a network of customer collaborations and sales leads that will be key to the success of Motif Ingredients.  He/She will serve as Motif’s industry awareness through direct interactions and participation in the most relevant industry events. In addition, this individual will help define future product strategies by creating customer “needs & wants” maps per business platform.


  • Create a strategy to define priority business platforms and customer acquisition plans that will contribute to Motif’s 5-year business plan
  • Establish a business development function and hire team members who will implement strategies, execute collaborations, and generate sales leads
  • Develop a plan for meetings, conferences, and trade shows (including booths, materials, and more)
  • Build and strengthen relationships with top sales targets by platform, product, and ingredient
  • Manage a sales and collaboration funnel with appropriate documentation and visibility

Pivotal Experience & Expertise

  • BS or MBA in related field
  • 10+ years of relevant experience with B2B businesses, including market development, business development, or sales – specifically within the food, food ingredients, nutritional products, and/or CPG industries
  • Prior experience with innovative startup companies
  • Expertise in technical sales and/or business development
  • Strong network of contacts in relevant industries
  • Event management experience, specifically with setting up trade show demos and booths
  • High level of business and finance expertise
