Ginkgo is constructing, editing, and redesigning the living world in order to answer the globe’s growing challenges in health, energy, food, materials, and more. Our bioengineers make use of an in-house automated foundry for designing and building new organisms. We're creating the code base, compiler, and debugger for biology. We're looking for amazing Software Engineering Managers to help us design and build the best toolchain - the bioinformatics and analysis tools that will define how bioengineers design organisms at scale.
Ginkgo has built a strong set of internal software tools, automation, and processes that enable high-throughput genetic engineering across multiple species. We want to make them even better by adding to their capabilities and scaling their performance, while making them easier and more efficient to use. We are looking for Software Engineering Managers with a proven track record for building and leading teams that deliver incredible scientific software - and a proven track record for scaling software infrastructure through architecture, DevOps, and cloud services.
As a Ginkgo Software Engineering Manager, you will grow and guide one or more of the software scrum teams that develop the infrastructure and software tools for automating, designing, building, and testing the strains designed by our bioengineers.
Be responsible for one or more software teams focused on developing first class biological tools or scaling our software infrastructure
Lead the creation and rollout of technical roadmaps by working closely with product managers, team leads, and engineering managers
Actively build up and lead a team of amazing engineers
Scale the capabilities of the software to meet the needs of a rapidly growing company
Instill team ownership and communication between different teams
Ensure timely deliverable of software by monitoring progress against deliverable timelines and removing obstacles to completion
Ensure quality software deliverables by maintaining high standards and implementing appropriate processes
Champion and implement continuous process improvements to improve team productivity
Guide the technical and professional development of team members
Provide continuous feedback to team members to recognize their strengths and contributions and address their weaknesses
Collaborate with other Software Engineering Managers to ensure architecture and interface cohesion, consistency, and expandability
A B.S. or higher degree in computer science or a related field and industry experience with biology, biological engineering, synthetic biology, or a related field
2-5 years of engineering management experience and proven track record of building software teams that deliver incredible products
Proven track record of scaling teams and software
Proficiency in agile development
Demonstrated ability to break down complex problems into actionable steps
Experience developing software that supports scientists and engineers
Excited to work with the best scientists and engineers to develop new software tools to solve never-before-seen scientific challenges
