Our mission is to make biology easier to engineer.  Ginkgo is constructing, editing, and redesigning the living world in order to answer the globe’s growing challenges in health, energy, food, materials, and more.  Our bioengineers make use of an in-house automated foundry for designing and building new organisms.  Today, our foundry is developing over 40 different organisms to make different products across multiple industries.

Our Legal Team is focused on providing creative solutions to help drive these groundbreaking endeavors at Ginkgo, and we strive to maintain the highest standards of agility, efficiency, and collaboration in our work.  Therefore, we’re seeking a dynamic and motivated Legal Executive Assistant to join our team and help maximize the efficiency of our operations.  

Reporting directly to our General Counsel, you’ll provide seamless administrative and executive support to the team, as well as some paralegal-level support.  You’ll also oversee the management and tracking of billings, contracts, and costs, as well as the implementation of knowledge management systems.  With your in-depth expertise as an executive assistant and intellectual curiosity for legal operations management, your role will be critical to the success of our growing organization.


  • Help drive the execution of initiatives and priorities across the Legal Team, leveraging new and existing systems to enhance the team’s efficiency, operations, communication, and performance.
  • Extend executive-level support to legal leadership, as well as administrative support to the Legal Team, including performing notary tasks within the organization.
  • Liaise with our Finance Team regarding the Legal Team’s budgeting, forecasting, and accruals.
  • Prepare filings and manage contracts, as well as manage relationships, spend, and billing with outside counsel and other external legal vendors.
  • Upgrade our legal operations function, expanding upon existing internal legal knowledge management processes and capabilities.
  • Streamline the implementation and utilization of training programs and self-service tools for internal clients.

Desired Experience and Capabilities

  • Proven expertise as an executive assistant, with a Bachelor’s degree in a related field, Notary Public certification, and at least 10 years of experience in executive assistant, paralegal, project management, and/or legal operations roles
  • Leadership experience in building, running, and managing programs, projects, and processes
  • Excellent organization, planning, and communication skills
  • Acumen for identifying obstacles, thinking ahead, and clearing the path for efficient legal service
  • Strong financial acumen and excellent analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
  • Eagerness and ability to move projects forward by gaining support from and working collaboratively with internal/external stakeholders to set objectives, drive progress, and produce meaningful results
