Uncubed

Sr. Software Engineer, Payments

Gusto, San Francisco

It’s time to tame the chaos of payroll, benefits, and HR.

Is the word “fintech” music to your ears? Are you excited by the idea that pushing code literally means moving money? If so, let’s chat! Over 60,000 customers trust Gusto’s payments system to move their money seamlessly to empower their businesses. The Payments team is responsible for building and leveling up the infrastructure that already moves tens of billions of dollars a year (and growing!) to enable the next phase of growth for Gusto.

Day-to-day, Payments engineers work full-stack: the API integrations with banking partners, the backend systems that efficiently processes millions of payment instructions from our customers every day, the reconciliation and reporting tools, and the UI to enable efficient internal operations are all part of the team’s responsibilities. The Payments team also routinely collaborates across functions and organizations to create seamless internal experiences for our product engineering, financial, and operational departments.

Here’s what you’ll do:

  • Work across the stack to architect, test, and maintain a robust payments infrastructure
  • Work closely with several organizations across the company to satisfy critical business needs
  • Level-up Gusto’s core payments and financial reporting systems
  • Improve Gusto’s engineering practices

Here’s what we’re looking for:

  • 4+ years of experience designing and building high-throughput systems that scale
  • Passion for engineering best practices such as code quality and automated testing
  • Comfort and experience with building and working with APIs
  • Comfort and experience with debugging production systems
  • Highly collaborative mindset
  • Willingness to be held to a high bar, and reciprocate to others on the team
  • Bonus: Interest or experience in the fintech industry space

About Gusto

We are Gusto Founded in 2011, Gusto provides payroll, benefits and HR to modern companies. We have offices in San Francisco and Denver, but thanks to our 40,000 small business customers and their employees, there’s a little piece of us in all 50 states. We believe that humans aren’t resources. When we come to work, we don’t leave our humanity at the door. We bring life with us: our feats and friendships, our adventures and aspirations. Great businesses treat us like people, not ID numbers. When that happens, work becomes a source of energy rather than fatigue. It creates a virtuous cycle where life improves work, and work improves our lives. That’s why we started Gusto. Our mission is to create a world where work empowers a better life.
