For the COVID-19 public health crisis, Helix has built one of the nation’s largest COVID diagnostic labs and has been on the leading edge of national viral surveillance efforts tracking B.1.1.7 and other viral strains.    

We are looking to hire a Cost Accounting Manager who will be an integral part of our growing team. This role will be responsible for all aspects of cost accounting, including month-end closing and audit support, and will provide timely and accurate analytics and reporting to Finance, Supply Chain, and Lab Operations colleagues. 

Strong analytical skills, ability to communicate with non-financial stakeholders at all levels, and deep understanding of cost accounting in a manufacturing / laboratory space are critical. The ideal candidate will be a proven individual contributor with a track record of successfully designing and implementing internal controls around inventory, purchasing, labor utilization, and manufacturing overhead. The candidate will have an in-depth knowledge of Operations Finance, standard costing concepts, inventory and applicable US GAAP accounting standards.

As a Cost Accounting Manager at Helix, you will:

  • Analyze and report on inventory levels, gross margins, manufacturing spend, absorption, standard cost variances, E&O, reserves, and other standard costing concepts
  • Perform month end close accounting responsibilities related to inventory and cost of goods sold including inventory account reconciliations, accruals, variance and reserve analysis
  • Identify, perform and drive process improvement opportunities in the month end close process
  • Play a hands-on role in the day-to-day cost accounting operations and work closely with cross-functional groups to develop and maintain processes, procedures and policies
  • Prepare, consolidate, review and present cost analyses and KPIs on a monthly basis to finance and operations leadership teams
  • Identify financial accounting risks and recommend mitigation steps and controls
  • Conduct physical count of inventory and monitor cycle count program
  • Support quarterly and annual audits by the external auditors
  • Participate in the maintenance of the internal financial control environment ensuring accurate financial statements and safeguarding company assets
  • Support / drive ad-hoc process improvement initiatives: inventory controls, BOMs and routings, key performance metrics and automation

Required background

  • BS in Accounting or Finance required; CPA/CMA a plus
  • Minimum 5 years in Supply Chain and Cost Accounting – preferably in a manufacturing or laboratory environment
  • Inventory management and reporting experience
  • Comfortable working with and analyzing large data sets, and summarizing results in a meaningful way for non-financial stakeholders
  • Successful track record of effectively interfacing with supply chain, research, and manufacturing personnel to identify, support, and execute on value-added ideas to improve processes
  • Proven ability to solve complex problems and influence cross functionally
  • Significant experience with designing, implementing and monitoring internal controls
  • In-depth experience in analyzing and reporting causes of manufacturing variances and recommending corrective actions
  • Attention to detail and strong analytical skills is a must
  • Ability to communicate effectively with non-financial stakeholders of all levels and identify meaningful trends in financial data that impact business and operational decisions
  • Excellent Microsoft Office Suite skills and related tools

An ideal candidate will have:

  • Strong hands-on experience with NetSuite, SmartView Planning, Tableau and / or Google Suite (Sheets, Docs, Slides)
  • Experience working at a laboratory
