Lead Product Designer

INDIGO fair, San Francisco

We’re here to help you discover the perfect products for your store.

Craft the platforms and tools used by thousands of independent retailers and makers to grow their businesses.

At Faire, we are using the power of technology to connect makers and boutiques from all over the world, and building a thriving community of over 10,000 small business owners. Our innovative online marketplace uses machine learning to match local retailers with the makers of products that uniquely fit their stores. We are looking for a Lead Designer to build products for our online marketplace and wholesale management tools across mobile and web platforms. We’d love for you to join and help us build a future that, we believe, is local.

Design is essential to achieving Faire’s vision and our team is responsible for setting and delivering best-in-class design experiences. In this role, you'll have the opportunity to shape new products from the ground up, help lead our rapidly growing Design team alongside our Head of Design, and create a more consistent experience through evolution of our design systems. By championing customer needs and connecting them to business goals, you’ll help us to achieve our mission of empowering entrepreneurs to chase their dreams.

What You’ll Do
  • Work through complex end-to-end user experience flows that demonstrate beautiful and functional visual and interaction design, typography, and hierarchy for our core digital products and physical touch points in the Faire ecosystem, solving both core and uncommon user scenarios and profiles.
  • Contribute to strategic product thinking to define product goals, business goals, and user requirements in collaboration with both product managers and engineers.
  • Leverage data and research to inform design decisions and product strategies. This includes the ability to think strategically about rolling out designs in small steps to validate your assumptions and to test hypotheses with lightweight research.
  • Bring your ideas to life through quick prototyping to get feedback early and often from the team and customers.
  • Evolve and improve our design systems and standards.
  • Help to shape the design team’s culture through mentorship, collaboration, feedback, and process iteration.

Qualifications
  • 5+ years as a Product Designer (or equivalent experience)
  • A strong design portfolio that exhibits a mastery of design principles, attention to detail, and a clear point of view.
  • Experience designing across both web-based products and mobile applications.
  • Experience as a team lead. You can facilitate discussions and lead through ambiguity.
  • Thoughtful communication skills and strong story-telling abilities. You can present design decisions and processes openly, clearly, and confidently, regardless of the audience.
  • A collaborative approach. You believe that product, design, and engineering decisions are inextricably linked and aim to be a great partner to other designers and stakeholders across the company.
  • A growth-mindset. You’re open and receptive to feedback, and can adapt quickly in a fast-paced environment. You’re open to changing your opinion with new information or understanding of product goals. You’re willing to work outside your comfort zone and are excited about learning and growing to take your professional skills and career to the next level.

Bonus Expertise
  • Experience design consumer-facing and B2B products in the e-commerce, retail, and marketplace sectors.
  • Ability to run your own user research is a plus as we grow and integrate research into our agile design practice.
  • Experience and fluency with HTML and CSS.
  • Experience with Sketch, Figma, Abstract, Framer and other design software.
  • You’re a maker or retailer yourself and bring first-hand experience and empathy for the small business and entrepreneurial journey.

Benefits
  • Competitive compensation + equity
  • Comprehensive health plans
  • Daily lunch & dinner service
  • Well-being at work including opportunities for mindfulness meditation, dedicated quiet spaces, and a health and wellness committee
  • Health credit for gyms
  • Unlimited PTO
