We are laser focused on delivering groceries from your favorite stores right to your door. We now cover over 60% of US households and aim to have 80% coverage by the end 2018—that's 90 million households! From a technology point of view, the platform is complex, rapidly scaling and processing millions of transactions in real-time all of the time. Our technology coupled with operational expertise enables Instacart to deliver fresh groceries in as little as an hour. This is a difficult problem to master and we are making it happen. About the Ads Team

We are reinventing the way brands connect with consumers, incentivizing trial with savings offers, and optimizing campaign returns through personalization & targeting.

What do we focus on? We build end-to-end products connecting consumers with brands.
  • Consumers - We help consumers save money with personalized offers, using machine learning to improve search relevancy and affinity rankings. We also help consumers discover new products through samples, recipes, influencers, and other rich media.
  • Brands - We help brands reach new consumer audiences and drive greater loyalty. We collaborate closely with brand partners to prototype new offerings.
  • Instacart - We improve Instacart’s value proposition for cost-conscious consumers; sponsorship revenue generated through our products is a key contributor towards Instacart’s profitability.


  • You will support multiple multidisciplinary teams focused on advertising products on Instacart
  • You will provide guidance for the goals of the teams, and ensure they're moving the company forward
  • You will develop the engineering talent on those teams
  • You will maintain a high bar for recruiting, hiring and performance of the engineering team
  • You will provide hands-on technical management, guidance, and support including system/design/code review
  • You will improve the productivity of the teams
  • You will be responsible for the health of your teams' systems and technologies
  • You will be part of the engineering leadership at Instacart promoting overall engineering excellence and best practices
  • Willing and able to travel internationally based on job requirements


  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering OR equivalent work experience
  • Strong sense of ownership
  • The ability to balance business needs, a sense of urgency, and shipping high quality and pragmatic solutions
  • Experience in building and maturing engineering teams in a startup environment
  • People management experience, including managing first-line managers
  • Extensive experience with cross functional teams and managing relationships with business or operations stakeholders
  • Experience with B2B systems, working with enterprise customers
  • Experience with supporting integrations/APIs
  • Strong knowledge of common Web technology such as Ruby on Rails, Python or JavaScript frameworks (React, AngularJS, Ember or Backbone.js)
  • Experience with advertising, especially in the CPG and/or retail space


  • Strong analytical skills
  • Contributions to the technical communities (e.g. open source, blogging, etc.)
  • Experience with machine learning and/or data modeling
  • Knowledge of mobile technologies (Android/iOS)
