General Summary
The Hair and Fur Fabricator is responsible for manufacturing hair and fur for characters used in Stop Motion Feature Films. The highest attention to detail, precision, scale, texture and patterns must be appropriate for miniatures and must reflect the production style and design.


Job Functions

  • Create hair and fur for various puppets based on the provided character design.
  • Ensure hair and fur is consistently produced on style and holds up to scrutiny on the big screen.
  • Work closely with Head of the Department and animators on movement and animatability of hair and fur.
  • Work collaboratively with other departments within Puppet Fabrication.
  • Complete tasks under tight deadlines while meeting creative standards.
  • Attend to stage repairs.


Qualifications

  • 3 years’ experience in design and fabrication in miniature form.
  • 2+ years’ experience in stop motion Puppet fabrication.
  • Experience creating 3D objects with various materials or fibers and dying fibers.
  • Basic knowledge in painting and sculpture.
  • Knowledge in hair punching, wefting, fur laying, shaving, flocking and gluing.
  • Detailed oriented.

  • Physical demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to walk; stand; sit; use hands to operate standard office equipment; reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop; talk or hear both in person and by telephone. The employee must lift and/or move up to 15 pounds. Vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Work environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee works under typical office conditions and is exposed to variable indoor temperatures. The noise level is usually quiet or moderate. In certain assignments, an employee may occasionally work near moving equipment and be exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals, airborne fumes and loud, prolonged noise (hearing protection required when using power tools).


Salary
Salary is commensurate with skills and experience.
