The Manager of Sales Engineering  will provide direct leadership to our West Coast Pre-Sales team supporting our small and medium business segments. In this role, you will own all aspects of building and managing a scalable, world-class team of Sales Engineers, providing leadership and guidance in SaaS technology, sales strategy, relationship building, enterprise solution development and trial execution / conversion. 

The Sales Engineering team within Looker serves as a primary point of contact to drive the successful introduction, adoption and broad usage of Looker’s products within the customer and prospect base. Activities of the team include product demos, technical qualification, identification of customer business / data analysis use cases, trial development and delivery, definition of appropriate business and technical solutions, customer  management, account development, technology evangelizing, and business consulting.  Key metrics for the team currently include customer activation, adoption, usage rates and trial conversions.


  • Build and lead a team of Sales Engineers (focused on small and medium business) who serve as our core product introduction, evaluation, and education experts
  • Partner with sales leadership to achieve regional quota targets and company goals and foster strong sales and SE relationships
  • Hire, onboard, ramp, and mentor the team
  • Contribute to vision and strategy across the SE team
  • Develop strong working relationships across internal functions (sales, professional services, alliances, customer success, operations, product, marketing, etc.)
  • Coach and develop SEs, including how to perform effective discovery and qualification, selling business value, and scoping and executing Proofs of Concept
  • Build consultative relationships with prospects, customers, and Looker’s partner network
  • Contribute to product development by providing insight and feedback relative to customers’ critical business issues and solutions opportunities


  • Experience managing customer-focused organizations (ideally a pre-sales/solutions architects/sales engineering team). 
  • Experience with SaaS and/or data analytics/BI industry
  • Previous blend of experience in sales, business development, and services delivery for a SaaS solution is highly desirable
  • Demonstrated expertise in understanding customer requirements and proposing solutions
  • Excellent oral and written communication, with the ability to persuasively articulate Looker offerings and business value to customers
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial “start-up” environment, requiring strong skills in critical thinking, influencing, and managing multiple priorities under tight deadlines
  • Some travel may be required
