The Role
Localization is one of the most critical components of a self-driving platform.  It allows the system to know its position and orientation relative to global coordinates, as well as nearby static objects.  As the lead of the localization team, you will be responsible for defining the vision for how localization is accomplished, and executing on that vision.  This will likely involve a combination of techniques which fuse information from LIDAR, GPS, inertial sensors, cameras, RADAR and mechanical sensors.  You will be working very closely with software engineers responsible for code running on the vehicle, as well as teams who work on offline cloud-based infrastructure.  As a member of a rapidly growing team, you will be able to make a large impact on the future of Lyft’s autonomous efforts.

Required competencies/experience

  • MS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related field with at least 5 years of relevant professional experience
  • At least 2 years of experience as a technical leader in the localization field
  • Extensive programming experience, ideally in C++Strong background in object oriented design, prioritizing testability and reusability
  • Deep knowledge of the Linux operating system
  • Expertise in Kalman Filtering, Convex Optimization, SLAM, computer vision or machine learning

Preferred Competencies

  • PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related field
  • Some experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP)
  • Experience in robotics, real time systems, embedded system or self-driving technologies
