About the Role

As a Autonomous Software Safety Engineer, you will be working collaboratively on software safety related requirements with internal Lyft Level 5 software engineering teams and with external manufacturers software for sensors and mission critical components for the autonomous vehicle.


  • Active participant in autonomous vehicle sub-systems development, working closely with both software and hardware teams in defining the autonomous vehicle sub-systems architecture from a safety perspective
  • Evaluate use cases through the assessment of safety manuals provided by external SW vendors for qualification within Lyft's SW environment
  • Develop appropriate SW test strategies to assess and qualify the various software environments in collaboration with the Quality Team
  • Establish and enforce best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, build processes and testing
  • Define safety testing requirements for software for sub-systems, working closely with the internal testing teams to ensure correct implementation, validation and qualification
  • Lead SW validation activities to confirm safety requirements are fully met
  • Develop appropriate technical safety reports to assist in validation and qualification of software work products

Experience & Skills

  • Strong software quality assurance, testing, verification or development background
  • Experience developing test strategies and/or test plans
  • Working knowledge of Embedded C or C++
  • Proven time management skills and a respect of deadlines

Nice to Have

  • Experience with real-time operating systems
  • Experience with embedded systems
  • Experience with safety-related automotive software
  • Experience with test management tools
  • Knowledge of ISO 26262 Functional Safety Standard
  • Proactive approach to troubleshooting problems - demonstrated responsibility of fixing issues
