Lyft is hiring a Director of Claims to join our expanding risk management team. This person will report to the VP, Risk Solutions. We're changing both transportation and insurance here at Lyft! Our insurance solutions are revolutionary, innovative, and evolving.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Leads Lyft’s Claims Team, responsible for managing the overall strategic direction and management of all aspects of the Company’s Insurance Claims - with a strong focus on auto liability, UM/UIM, physical damage and general liability
  • Works closely with Lyft Legal and Finance to recommend and implement claims handling policies, procedures including settlement guidelines, with a focus on operational excellence, cost reduction strategies, and driver and passenger experience
  • Recruits, develops and motivates a high performing team - establishing direct performance objectives, training and development programs, workflow management and organization planning/hiring
  • Provides authorization on settlement requests and reserve changes at predetermined limits of authority; determines claims settlement authority for Claims Team within the limits of Company policies
  • Working closely with Legal, responsible for evaluation and management of high profile claims
  • Develops, implements and analyzes appropriate metrics to identify trends, reduce Lyft loss costs and keeps Executive team informed
  • Prepares annual Claims Stewardship Report
  • Leverages data and analytics to improve business results by identifying opportunities for continuous process improvement and measurement of  effectiveness of cost reduction initiatives
  • Sets and achieves quarterly Claims Team Objectives & Key Results (OKR’s)
  • Overall responsibility for Lyft’s Third Party Administrators (TPA’s) and RMIS vendor, including:
  • - Ensuring TPA’s are an extension of the Lyft brand
    - Setting, communicating and confirming adherence to Service Level Agreements (addressing Cycle Time, Expense Management, and audit results)
    - Executive Sponsor of quarterly TPA claim reviews
    - Develops, communicates and implements effective claims plans and billing guidelines
    - Identifies vendor accomplishments and opportunities for improvement
    - Semi-annual visits with adjusting staff
    - Leverages capabilities of RMIS system
  • Identifies cross-operational opportunities for Claims process improvements, loss prevention programs and Claims education
  • Works closely with Data and Analytics team to develop and implement strategic initiatives, including predictive analytics, to reduce claim loss frequency, severity and claim costs

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • 10+ years of coverage and litigation and claims management - with an emphasis on auto liability
  • 5+ years of leadership experience
  • Proven experience working with third party administrators, internal and external legal teams in a high volume claims environment
  • Deep technical claim and legal knowledge, experience with RMIS systems - a plus
  • Self-starter with excellent problem-solving capabilities, judgment, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Adept at thinking creatively (and strategically!) on your feet; proven ability to manage complex workloads, multiple client demands and ever-shifting priorities
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with leaders on Product, Finance, Legal and Data Science
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced environment, subject to rapid change and uncertainty
