The Manufacturing Quality Engineer is responsible for communicating and reinforcing Markforged’s commitment to quality improvement efforts. You will develop, implement and maintain a manufacturing quality management system. You will lead a team of quality technicians and work directly with engineering and management to monitor and report on factory quality performance. A background in materials science, continuous manufacturing processes, analytical and data analysis methods will enable you to identify areas for improvement throughout the factory. 

We are seeking a candidate with experience leading manufacturing quality efforts. The ideal candidate will have experience with plastics and/or composite materials processing, and continuous manufacturing processes.  This position is well suited for an experienced hands-on individual willing to get their hands dirty. The nature of the position requires a person who is adaptable to change, and has the ability to thrive in an evolving work environment.

This is a full time position that will report to the Director of Manufacturing.  

In this role you will:

  • Represent Quality through the manufacturing process 
  • Provide updated status on any quality related processes, procedures, or issues
  • Audit incoming material, WIP, finished goods, and daily documentation
  • Perform process capability studies through data analysis
  • Manage product holds to resolution or disposition
  • Investigate and resolve customer feedback and complaints
  • Maintain documentation of quality processes for traceability
  • Create Process Support Documents (PSDs) for production
  • Maintain quality equipment, calibrations, and services
  • Maintain chemical handling documentation and procedures
  • Support new product introduction processes
  • Partner with Sourcing to maintain supplier quality and relationships
  • Partner with Materials Engineering to maintain raw material standards, testing, and improvements
  • Supervise a team of QC technicians, providing leadership, guidance and prioritization

The Manufacturing Quality Engineer will develop and refine:

  • ECN process
  • Deviation process
  • CAPA process
  • Processes and procedures to drive ISO standards
  • APQP tools
  • Document control system and templates
  • Standard tools for product testing of material under quality review
  • Standard  go / no-go metrics for WIP and finished goods
  • Quality training tools, training, and auditing
  • First piece inspection / visual factory tools
  • Improvements to current testing processes and equipment

The Manufacturing Quality Engineer will use data to:

  • Improve production quality
  • Drive improvements to quality metrics, KPIs, and targets
  • Analyze internal and external defect trends
  • Identify relationships between incoming material, procedures, and process performance
  • Analyze quality metrics per unit operation to determine improvement opportunities
  • Work with SCADA and Controls team to identify process capabilities and improvements to reduce material holds
  • In-line inspection and automation for developed standards

What we look for:

  • 3+ years of manufacturing quality experience
  • Continuous manufacturing process experience
  • B.S. degree in Engineering or a related field
  • Practical experience implementing or using advanced manufacturing methodologies  
  • Technical writing skills that include quality procedures and test plans
  • Statistical analysis and interpretation skills 
  • Experience with factory safety requirements and chemical handling
  • Exposure to ISO standards and implementation
