About the Role
Working in open source means your work is publicly visible. Your code will receive both credit and constructive critique from the community. Core committers include highly skilled volunteer developers from the community, staff employed by enterprises deploying and investing in Mattermost, as well as staff employed by Mattermost, Inc.
We are looking for a lead engineer to lead a team focusing on maintaining and improving the quality of the Mattermost product by solving tough engineering problems and hard-to-debug issues. You know when to delegate and when to get into the code yourself. You have a keen sense of the processes and techniques that make high quality codebases. Speaking and writing about complex technical issues comes naturally to you, helping the R&D organization maintain and improve the quality of the product while communicating effectively with customers.
Lead a team of engineers focused on maintaining and improving the quality of Mattermost products
Reproduce and solve difficult engineering problems across a variety of technologies (Go, React, React Native, etc)
Identify and assist in paying off technical debt across Mattermost codebases
Propose and implement processes to improve the quality of the Mattermost codebases
Respond to escalations to the engineering department from customer support
Be the interface between engineering, product management, quality assurance and customer support
Play a pivotal role in setting direction and standards for a large open source project
Guide, review and support open source contributors and community members
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related fields, or significant professional software development experience
Proven experience as a lead engineer or in a similar role
Strong experience with or an ability to quickly become an expert in Go and React
Experience working directly with customers to solve hard engineering problems
Familiarity with most of our technology stack, including: Go, React, React Native, Redux, MySQL, PostgreSQL
Experience in writing high performance production quality code.
Comfortable with GitHub, Jira, Jenkins, CircleCI
Experience working in open source communities
