About this job

The Process Automation Engineer will be responsible for the automation of a complex and novel pilot plant for cell-based meat production. This individual will work with the process teams to specify automation functional requirements and ensure compliant and efficient designs, participate during the FATs, software and hardware installations, design and execute automation testing during I/O commissioning and qualification test phases. After facility completion, they will support the processing team and integrate new capabilities and systems as needed. This operations-based position requires a deep understanding of process technology and high flexibility. They should be willing to learn new programming languages, integrate various software solutions into a unified platform, and collaborate closely with the data engineering team. They should be passionate about creating logical, efficient and user-friendly solutions. You should be creative, structured, enthusiastic and a self-manager.

Duties include

  • Develop a automation vision and strategy for facilities that supports all company objectives
  • Participation in FATs, software and hardware installations, commissioning and qualification tests including protocol authoring and execution
  • Lead automation projects including development and documentation of automation functional requirements, system design and review, implementation including coding and de-bugging, deployment of novel automation solutions, and completed documentation
  • Lead others such as engineering firms and contract staff to deliver automation solutions where this is required due to scope of work
  • Selection of talent to deliver increased scopes of work in automation
  • Specification of instruments and networks to integrate with automation systems
  • Ensure automation and data system compliance to regulatory guidelines for food manufacturing
  • Training and education of the process engineers and plant operatorsIntegration, modification and optimization of new and existing systems as required
  • Configuration and integration of third-party software
  • Responsible for data storage and support of data analyses
  • Creation of batch protocols
  • Improvements and tests with suppliers
  • Help establish and maintain and engineering documentation system to capture automation-related documentation and controlled changes
  • Maintenance and production support

About you

  • 7+ years’ experience in programming, commissioning, installation and support of process manufacturing equipment and facilities
  • Understanding of and programming skills in functional blocks, ladder logics, structured texts and sequential function charts
  • Experienced with process automation on various platforms including local PLCs, SCADA systems and integrated PCS solutions
  • Knowledge of BAS systems for process areas
  • Experienced programming with multiple automation systems to create batch process recipes
  • Experienced with instrumentation and networks
  • Ability to read and understand circuit diagrams
  • Ability to lead individuals and teams
  • Background in automation for the biotech- and/or food/beverage industry 
  • Passionate and creative
