About the Position

Interested in making an impact on the way meat is produced?  Come join Memphis Meats as a Computational Biologist in our Data team.  You will work closely with tissue engineers, cell biologists, and other scientists and engineers to build tools, design experiments, perform analyses, and build models that improve all aspects of cellular agriculture in a wide range of species.  As a key member of our scientific team, you will have a large impact on the research performed at Memphis Meats.  You will also have the opportunity to work in a green field that is ripe for innovation.

We are looking for someone with broad knowledge and expertise in genomics.  Your work will include design and analysis of various flavors of CRISPR/Cas9 libraries for non-model organisms; analysis of high-throughput sequencing experiments; mining of public databases and published literature; metabolic analysis; and beyond.  You should be service-oriented, self-directed, and enthusiastic about working in a fast-paced start-up environment.  Strong software practices and excellent communication skills are a must.

  • Designing various kinds of CRISPR/Cas9 perturbation libraries
  • Building NGS analysis pipelines, and working with scientists to interpret the results of high-throughput sequencing experiments
  • Performing ad-hoc analyses to address new biological hypotheses
  • Building models to predict the performance (taste, yield) of cell lines, media formulations, and processes for cell-based meat production
  • Using metabolomics techniques to interpret experimental data
  • Writing reproducible code using software best practices
  • Working closely with the software and data engineering teams to ensure excellent data modelling and capture

About You

  • Ph.D. in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Genomics, or related field
  • 2+ years of experience in biotech or pharma 
  • Experienced in CRISPR library design and analysis, with a preference for metabolomics applications
  • Broadly experienced with NGS analysis (RNA-Seq, ChIP-Seq, ATAC-Seq, Single Cell Seq, etc), with an emphasis on Illumina and 10X platforms
  • Deeply versed in analysis algorithms and approaches for CRISPR techniques such as calculating efficiency of indel formation, precise editing, GUIDE-Seq, CRISPR-GA, CCTop, BLESS, etc. and their application to mammalian CRISPR experiments
  • Experienced with single-cell bioinformatics
  • Fluent in Python, R, and Bash
  • Able to write well-tested, high-performance, production-quality code
  • Strong publication record

Nice to have

  • Deep experience using machine learning tools for sequencing and image analysis
  • Experience with workflow management systems (Airflow, Luigi, etc.)
  • Hands-on experience with Docker and CI/CD
  • Fluency in RUST
