As a Data Scientist in the DS unit, you will be faced with all the tricky internal business problems that can potentially be solved by data science. Such problems include but not limited to: tactic & strategic forecasting, optimal targeting, optimal control and controlled experiments (AB tests). This is a free role in the sense that you don't have a fixed responsibility field, and you don't dedicate to a specific department, rather that all Mendix internals are your potential stakeholders, you challenge existing processes & products based on your deep business & professional knowledge, you spot areas of improvement with a keen eye and proactively forming task forces to solve them.
In a typical end-to-end process you will need to collaborate with analysts, product managers, snr managers, engineers, researchers and most importantly your own teammates to research on the problem, build a model, solve it mathematically, productionize the result in reality and evaluate the business impact.
Among the process you are responsible for:
Research & prototype the mathematical models.
Explain key concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
If needed, Facilitate engineers for productionization.
Guide the AB testing process to avoid certain pitfalls.
When suitable, contribute to the related academic communities in the forms of papers or forum posts.
DS unit is a group of people with strong scientific background, rich practical experience and business knowledge. The unit focuses on extracting facts from data that provide research consulting services to all internal business stakeholders. The provided services are designed for optimization of existing business processes & product and exploration of futuristic ideas & solutions. Instead of insights, DS makes sure that all research results are immediately-actionable and their business impact be evaluated.
Ideally PhD or Master's degree in a quantitative discipline (e.g., Statistics, Bioinformatics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Mathematics).
Expertise in Bayesian statistics and modern statistical inference & learning techniques(e.g. variational methods, sampling methods).
Expertise in statistical software (e.g., R, Python, MATLAB).
Demonstrated skills in computational statistics and statistical machine learning techniques (such as publication records in the field of expertise, contribution to popular open-source repositories, winning of Kaggle competitions, cross-validated etc.).
Experience conducting A/B tests.
Experience articulating business questions and mathematical solutions to non-technical stakeholders.
Expertise in probabilistic graphical models and/or reinforcement learning.
Strong publication record in top venues in the field of expertise.
Experience with C/C++.
