Job Description:

Role Overview

We are looking for a detail-oriented DevOps Engineer to become an embedded member and hands-on contributor within an Agile/Scrum Delivery team based in London. We are looking for strong, energetic, and proactive candidates that will challenge the team to strive for increased scalability, better performance, more complete monitoring, actionable alerting, and understand best practices for continuous integration and delivery. You will be expected to have an opinion and use your voice to move our goals forward. You will be encouraged to explore new technologies, how they will benefit the company and product, and bring ideas on how to implement them.

You will be in an environment that fosters cross-functional collaboration as well as working with all roles of the scrum team (Product Manager, Software Engineer, UX, QA, etc.) and will need to bring a strong understanding of Agile/Scrum development methodologies. We follow the squad model made famous by Spotify, so you'll be part of an autonomous team with full responsibility for your own area and an opportunity to look to implement change across the board, while collaborating with colleagues in the US to ensure fast and consistent delivery.

What are we building?

Merrill is building a new platform to provide powerful and innovative solutions to enable our clients to manage the most complex deals on the planet as efficiently as possible.

  • Contribute to, and improve, our CI/CD pipeline

  • Work with your teammates to define operations best practices and standards

  • Work with your delivery team to ensure best practices and standards are followed

  • Identify key system metrics and ensure adequate monitoring coverage for new and existing services

  • Mentor other Engineers and foster an environment of growth and learning

  • Serve in an on-call rotation

  • Explore and test new technologies as they become available

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • 3 to 5 years’ relevant technical experience including:

  • Implementing and managing highly available systems

  • Cloud providers in an enterprise environment (Azure preferred)

  • Version control (Git, SVN, Mercurial, etc.)

  • Application performance monitoring and load testing and systems analytics (AppDynamics, Splunk, Catchpoint, Dynatrace, ELK stack, JMeter, etc.)

  • Configuration management tools (Ansible, Chef, Puppet, etc.)

  • Using and managing CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GitLab, etc.)

  • Working with site reliability engineering (SRE) is especially desired

  • Being part of a 24/7 on-call rotation

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field

Additionally, the following would be helpful:

  • Technical aptitude and attention to detail

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
