Job Description:

The Database Engineer is adept with with DevOps and agile delivery practices and understands the entire data ecosystem. As a technical leader, the database engineer is responsible to oversee the work of the team and ensure that best practices are followed and provide direct and immediate feedback and coaching when they are not.

He or she can anticipate potential challenges, identify them with the appropriate level of risk or impact, can break down a deliverable into a technical work plan and can coordinate a team to achieve commitments against the plan. The Database Engineer is able to simplify complex data problems and explain the impact and relationships to anyone in the organization.

As an administrator of the warehouse, the Database Engineer is responsible for management and maintenance of the data warehouse, to complete schema design, ensure consistency, monitor costs and improve efficiency, create and organize roles, ensuring principle of least privileged is followed, and manage users and security.

He or she is accountable to manage the warehouse to committed client SLAs, to internal set budget and to make adjustments to processing and sizes to maximize performance and cost expectations.

The Database Engineer plays a very hands-on role developing code with the data and analytics team. He or she must be adept in the SQL language and be able to manage and support needed working connections between the reporting service and warehouse as well as able to setup and maintain refresh-able and automated data streaming jobs to run via ETL tools from multiple, disparate data sources into the data warehouse. The person in this role must also be able to structure common and disparate data-sets in a manner that is reliable and performant within the warehouse such that when accessed from a report, the answers are insightful, accurate, relevant and quickly available for the user.

The Database Engineer is an innovator and an out-of the box thinker, and is committed to quality, stability and uncovering opportunity for the future. He or she seeks to deliver new solutions uncovered through discovery and partners closely with Product to understand customer pain and problems and is a reliable expert on data quality while demonstrating willingness to build and test for technical feasibility using methodology consistent with product management.

The Database Engineer understands and is committed to hypothesis-driven problem solving and is an essential and trusted technical technical support to the Analytics director.

The Database Engineer has excellent abilities to influence without requiring reporting authority to do so. He or she builds effective relationships within and outside of his or her team and is able to use those relationships to achieve goals.
