Job Description:

The Sr. Data and Insights Engineer is adept with with DevOps and agile delivery practices and understands the entire data ecosystem. The Sr. Data and Insights engineer is should be an expert on the entire data ecosystem and to hold others and him or herself accountable to best practices, and provide direct and immediate feedback and coaching when they are not.  The Sr. Data and Insights Engineer is able to simplify complex data problems and explain the impact and relationships to anyone in the organization.

The Sr. Data and Insights Engineer, is responsible for supporting performance and cost goals set for the warehouse and data pipeline and to create jobs and products that meet or exceed these goals.  He or she should be the backup to the Database Engineer, able to create and organize roles if needed, ensuring principle of least privileged is followed, manage users and security, and able to make adjustments to processing and sizes to maximize performance and cost expectations.

The Sr. Data and Insights Engineer plays a very hands-on role developing code as a member of the data and analytics team.  He or she must be adept in the SQL language and be able to manage and support needed working connections between the reporting service and warehouse as well as able to setup and maintain refreshable and automated data streaming jobs to run via ETL tools from multiple, disparate data sources into the data warehouse.  The person in this role must also be able to structure common and disparate datasets in a manner that is reliable and performant within the warehouse such that when visualized and accessed from a report, the answers are insightful, accurate, relevant and quickly available for the user.

The Sr. Data and Insights Engineer is accountable for data governance and standardization and being actively involved in the data chapter across the product organization.  He or she is committed to quality, stability and supporting efforts to innovate. He or she partners closely with Product leadership and the Database Engineer to understand customer pain and problems and is a reliable expert on data quality while demonstrating willingness to build and test for technical feasibility using methodology consistent with product management.  The Sr. Data and Insights Engineer understands and is committed to hypothesis-driven problem solving, is an out of the box thinker and is a known innovator.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Recognized as an innovator and reliable engineer, adept at engineering best practices.

Manages and understands the entire data ecosystem and effectively coaches others on the team involved in the same work.

Committed to hypothesis-driven problem solving, demonstrates leadership through effective partnership with cross functional team members.

Supports the Database Engineer and able to serve as a backup when needed on all critical duties.

Adept in current engineering practices, active code contributor.

Accountable for data governance and standardization and being actively involved in the data chapter across the product organization

Able to simplify complex data problems and explain the impact and relationships to anyone in the organization.

Understands the entire data ecosystem and able to deliver customer value through visual and tabular insights, straightforward answers, forecasts or trends that respond to the implicit or explicit business question or problems. 

Minimum Education

4 year college degree in Computer Science, MIS, Mathematics or similar, Masters preferred.
