IT Operations Engineer 

Location: Remote (anywhere in PST through EST time zones)

The Opportunity 

We process terabytes of connected car telemetry every day. The DevOps team is responsible for developing our cloud strategy, cloud infrastructure, and automation frameworks, as well as deploying, managing, maintaining, scaling, securing, and monitoring multi-tenant SaaS applications running on Microsoft Azure PaaS. Your primary responsibilities will be to work with the engineering and QA teams in automating various aspects of operational systems,  supporting and maintaining internal systems, and supporting the production platform through all layers of the Mojio’s production infrastructure stack.

Core Requirements

  • At least 4+ years industry experience in IT Operations
  • At least 2+ years of full Cloud Native specific experience
  • Proven scripting experience with at least two of the following languages:
    Python, PowerShell, Go, Bash, PHP, JavaScript  
  • Proven experience with securing infrastructure and resources applying security best practices.
  • Proven experience with document-centric databases such as Couchbase, CosmosDB, or MongoDB as well as exposure to time series databases.
  • Proven Experience with software version control tools such as Git, Subversion, Svn, Clearcase, etc.
  • Knowledge of Configuration Management and Orchestration tools and concepts such as Ansible.
  • Experience in a role managing the operations of enterprise SaaS applications in a production environment.
  • Experience using and maintaining production IaaS and PaaS in a Microsoft Azure environment.
  • Knowledge of Infrastructure-As-Code tools and concepts such as ARM Templates, Terraform, CloudFormation, GDM, etc.
  • Knowledge of CI/CD tools and concepts Azure DevOps, Jenkins, TeamCity, etc.
  • Strong knowledge of TCP/IP networking technologies, and standard network security technologies within cloud native environments.
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science or related field. 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to convert information into practical deliverables using rigorous logic and methods to solve difficult problems.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Nice to have

  • Experience with one or more container orchestration tools and concepts such as Docker Swarm, Kubernetes, Kafka, Apache Mesos, etc.
  • Certifications in relevant technologies are a plus.
  • Familiarity with the Hadoop and Apache Spark ecosystem would be an asset.

As a Operations Engineer, you will need to be passionate about solving problems, have strong capabilities in troubleshooting issues on several platforms in operational environments, be proficient with engineering automated solutions, and work well in a team environment You should believe in yourself and share your ideas with your team. You should be comfortable with expressing and discussing your ideas with diverse groups.

What you will do

  • Support the production operations of large scale, near real-time, and highly distributed execution environments supporting hundreds of thousands of users.
  • Identify manual processes requiring automation by designing, creating, and documenting the appropriate levels of automation, monitoring, and alerting to replace these processes.
  • Review, revise, and invent the infrastructure and execution environments that support new and updated products.
  • Identify, highlight, and track important counters, gauges, and events which monitor the health of all aspects of the execution environments.
  • Respond to and correct disruptive service events within execution environments and add the appropriate monitors and alerts to mitigate a repeat of similar events. 
  • Use your knowledge of securing execution environments to block and/or subvert DDoS, malicious attacks, and protect them from invalid user access.
  • Managing and maintaining monitoring systems using ELK, graphite, and Grafana.
  • Supporting 24/7 operations by being available 1 week each month as the on-call engineer.
