Media Technology Engineer – Storage and Infrastructure

NBCUniversal’s Infrastructure and Services team is looking for a Media Technology Engineer with expert-level knowledge of storage technology, as well as a strong familiarity with public cloud and on-premise infrastructure. Our team designs, implements, and supports on-premise and public cloud infrastructure for complex applications. We are involved in the full systems lifecycle, including tasks that go beyond basic setup - tuning, performance optimization, and advanced troubleshooting of newly built and upgraded systems. The candidate will lead the design, build, and ongoing maintenance of Storage systems and infrastructure leveraged by our team to improve our infrastructure management platforms. In addition, the candidate must also collaborate with many other technical teams (e.g. AD, Network, Compute, Security, and Operations), in an oversight capacity, and help drive continuous improvement initiatives for our provisioning, automation and monitoring of systems within our enterprise data centers.

Areas of Responsibility

  • Responsible for deployment and management of storage infrastructure (SAN, NAS, LTO, Fibre Channel, Object storage)
  • Assist project teams in scoping, design, and project work estimations
  • Actively participates in project meetings and provides input to design and implementation of storage and infrastructure solutions
  • Identify issues and project business requirements and develop solutions to them
  • Own responsibility for the technical quality of our team’s solutions delivery; describe architecture decisions and rationales at a detailed level to both client and internal teams
  • Own Continuous Improvement initiatives and work with other technical leads to define and maintain compliance with organizational standards
  • Collaborate with Cyber Security and identify solutions for remediation of vulnerabilities
  • Participate in 24/7 support by acting as an escalation point for any production issues
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to team colleagues


•5+ years of hands-on experience in Storage implementation, migration, and administration
•5+ years of experience with storage system administration (NFS, CIFS, Stornext, DDN, Dell/EMC, Cloudian, NetApp, Pure, and Brocade)
•3+ years with data center technologies (Cisco, Dell, HP, etc.)
•Strong knowledge of Network Technology (Design of TCP/IP, UDP, IPV4, IPV6, DNS, SSL, Firewalls, F5 LTM)
•Excellent understanding of OS management and features (RHEL, OEL, Windows)
•Demonstrated grounding of cybersecurity best practices, shift left thinking
•Familiar with traditional DevOps tools and infrastructure-as-code patterns (Python, Terraform, etc)
•Strong written and oral communication skills
•Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
•B.S. degree in Information Technology, Business Administration or commensurate experience
•Must be willing to travel, infrequently, to our locations in Universal City, CA or Englewood Cliffs, NJ
•Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the US

•Knowledge of SAN, NAS and Object storage
•Strong leader capable of results through others
•Familiar with VMWare/ESXi, NetApp and Pure compute and storage environments
•Familiar with ITSM and Agile methodologies
•Experienced with ServiceNow and JIRA
•AWS or Azure experience preferred
•Experienced with working in a Data Center and supporting hardware
•Working knowledge of Single Sign On authentication
•Skilled at making decisions and problem solving
•Ability to communicate with external customers in the resolution of support issues
