Cloud Reliability Engineer

We are looking for an individual to fill the role of Cloud Reliability Engineer. As a member of the NBC Production Infrastructure team, this individual would engineer solutions to design, build, and maintain systems that directly support on-air broadcast production.

Reliability Engineering is a methodology that combines automation, codified infrastructure, and continuous delivery to reduce operational complexity and increase platform stability and usability. Applying this approach to the broadcast production environment, the Cloud Reliability Engineer will architect solutions to automate, provision, and maintain infrastructure across hybrid cloud environments.


Primary Responsibilities:
  • Engage in (and work to improve) all steps of the broadcast production lifecycle:
Design – Build – Test – Release – Deploy – Operate – Monitor – Refine
  • Utilize infrastructure-as-code and configuration management tools to provision systems across hybrid cloud environments (AWS, Azure, VMWare, etc)
  • Write code to support automation, monitoring, and diagnostic tools
  • Automate and configure processes to continuously improve the production environment
  • Maintain production systems by measuring and monitoring availability, latency, and overall system health


-BS in Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or equivalent work experience
-3+ years’ experience with cloud-native and microservice architectures and an understanding of design principles for scalability, performance, and reliability
-Proficient understanding of AWS/Azure architecture and core services
-Proficient in at least one of the following languages: Python, Bash, Powershell
-Experience with infrastructure-as-code methodologies and use of orchestration and configuration management tools such as Puppet, Ansible, and Terraform

-Experience working as a Site Reliability Engineer (or similar) for a software, technology, or broadcast company
-Proficient knowledge of source control repositories (GitHub, GitLab, CodeCommit)
-Proficient in both Linux/Windows operating systems
-Ability to debug, optimize code, and automate routine tasks
-Strong problem-solving and communication skills
-Strong understanding of networking principles
-Experience with monitoring and logging solutions
-Knowledge of broadcast production control room systems
-Understanding of software-defined-networking, specifically Cisco ACI
