Level: Manager (Supervisor)


The Film Technology team of Universal Filmed Entertainment is looking for a technical expert with hands-on detailed experience with all content protection technologies as well as creating, developing and delivering digital products. The role is focused on Universal Pictures’ strategy and implementation of encryption, streaming protocols, codecs and DRM policies. Additionally, the successful candidate will have a working knowledge of creating digital products using cloud-based systems and of content distribution technologies. This role requires leadership of teams who will interact with partners at various levels, from creative agencies, to post-production teams and retailers.

  • Leading expert on all content protection encryption technologies, streaming protocols, codecs, DRM, encryption models and anti-piracy techniques
  • Providing leadership to evaluate the effectiveness of technical controls used to enforce intellectual property rights in a diverse ecosystem of hardware and software encryption solutions.
  • Manage a small team responsible for development and project management of digital services for Universal Pictures Home Entertainment
  • Work with business stakeholders to evaluate technical requirements and lead cross-functional teams to create production-ready solutions.
  • Represent Universal Pictures’ agenda in industry forums including relevant industry and technology-related boards and standards bodies
  • Collaboratively develop, gain consensus, and implement technology roadmaps for Universal Pictures in media technologies such as metadata, content workflow and distribution platforms, media formats, and analytics
  • Effectively articulate complicated technology issues and advise Universal Pictures’ leadership and key stakeholders on business implications of technology developments and trends

Basic Qualifications:
  • Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience
  • At least 10 years of experience in a technical position in media, entertainment, online gaming, or social media and currently managing a team
  • In depth knowledge and current experience with streaming protocols, codecs, DRM, encryption models and anti-piracy techniques
  • Experience developing cloud-based services
  • Strong interpersonal, administrative, analytical and presentation skills

    Desired Characteristics:

  • Understanding of cloud transcoding for live/linear and file-based workflows
  • Experience with media delivery to global audiences using CDNs
  • Experience managing external vendor relationships
  • Experience manage multiple distributed vendor technical teams in different time-zones
  • Exceptional problem analyzing skills and designing solutions
  • Experience with media technology standards including: EIDR, SCTE, MPEG, ATSC, DVB
