NerdWallet, Remote (Based in Canada)

A personal finance website that helps people make and manage financial decisions

*100% Remote (based in Canada)*

NerdWallet is seeking a Staff Platform Engineer to help us optimize performance and scale our systems to handle the ever-increasing traffic and complexities across our web and mobile applications. At its core, our Platform Engineering team powers NerdWallet’s personalized experiences via user profiles, recommendations, and cross-platform communications.

Our User Platform team is building, maintaining, and scaling NerdWallet's core identity and data services. You will play a key role in enabling other teams to build rich services and apps that are at the heart of NerdWallet’s commitment to provide clarity for all of life’s financial decisions on top of our user accounts, auth, and data platforms at scale. Members of the team frequently collaborate across engineering and other functions, build high-leverage systems with a breadth of clients, and push the company forward with problems of scale.

Where you can make an impact:

  • Build easy to use systems, services, and tools that will be utilized across our product, engineering, and design organizations
  • Technical freedom to guide the architecture for top-notch performance and reusability while communicating trade-offs between technical debt, quality, and speed
  • You will be a crucial member of our engineering team and help design, build, and maintain systems necessary to continue our rapid growth

You are:

  • An engineer with experience in writing high-quality code. Our main backend languages are Python and Go, but experience with these is not required
  • Someone who can define complex projects and deliver them with larger groups (3+) of other engineers
  • An expert in representing project status and communicating with product and technology leadership
  • Committed to soliciting input and feedback from others and identifying appropriate stakeholders
  • Collaborative and dedicated to up-leveling the engineers around you

Your experience:

  • Have held a Senior, Staff, Principal, or above engineering title
  • 8+ years of engineering experience with system architecture and service design
  • Experience influencing strategy within their working group, proactively identifying and resolving technical issues before escalation is required
  • An engineer with hands-on experience with users systems at scale (e.g. 10M+ users) a plus
