Senior Software Engineer in Test - Android Platform

The Netflix applications are among the most widely used applications on the Android platform, and run on a wide variety of devices including phones & tablets but also TVs, set-top boxes and VR headsets.
The Android platform team focuses on providing software foundations in the areas of multimedia, streaming, networking, security, and app frameworks. As a member of the development team, you will lead the efforts to automate the testing of the core application components and the associated Node endpoints. You will write automated tests for both existing and new features. You will also serve as an automation evangelist within the team by proposing changes to the software design to make app components easier to test, and assisting greybox testers and developers in writing test code that follows industry best practices.

  • Write automation test cases for new features and new devices
  • Advocate code-level testing and establish good practices within the team
  • Work with Mobile Automation Test team to ensure a reliable and capable mobile test frameworks
  • Simulate various network conditions to accurately reflect user conditions
  • Validate partner devices are reliable even under stress conditions
  • Find issues and file tickets with the appropriate reproduction steps and debugging information
  • Triage bugs, assign priorities, and collaborate with engineering owners


  • Expertise in writing test cases and developing test automation code for Android applications at all levels (functional, unit, stress, performance).
  • Deep knowledge of automation frameworks, in particular those relevant to Android, such as Espresso, Robotium, Mockito, Robolectric, and/or JUnit.
  • Proficient in Java, OOD, and at least one scripting language
  • Familiar with adb, fastboot or other Android tools needed to flash applications and firmware to devices
  • Able to work independently and drive results in a fast-pace environment
  • Clear and efficient communication; comfortable with working with external partners
  • A minimum of 5 years of test automation experience with at least 3 years on Android

Bonus if you have experience with:

  • Multimedia applications and/or components (framework, codec, libraries...)
  • Back-end systems
  • C++, JavaScript, Node
  • Android TV or Fire TV applications/products
  • Configuring gateways to simulate various network performance characteristics (bandwidth, latency, etc.)
  • AB testing
