With so many different titles to choose, across such a range of tastes and cultural standards, our members need the information and context to be able to tell at glance that what they’re watching is appropriate for their household.
In this role, the right candidate will have the opportunity to develop and craft a global system for accurately classifying and rating Netflix’s rapidly growing catalog of original content. It will require deep-level movie and TV expertise, knowledge of content policies and cultural sensitivities all over the world, operational aptitude to enforce those policies, and skill for creating great Internet products.
Based in the Product team, your goals will include improving the ease of use, transparency, and scalability of maturity advisories for all customers, with an eye toward those with children in the household. As we are a subscriber service, responsibility to our users is paramount; although traditional Standards & Practices work is relevant, ours is a different focus than most broadcast networks.
This is a highly cross-functional role. Within the Editorial Creative team, you will align with our in-house tagging and classification teams and the technology they use, working to evolve our internal systems, tools, and processes for scale, efficiency, and accuracy. In the broader Product organization, you will partner with Design, Consumer Insights, Globalization, and Engineering to execute on our maturity ratings strategy. Further, you will collaborate with Public Policy and PR to evangelize the broader story of Netflix global ratings, and serve as a trusted consultant to Content on new movies and shows.
8+ years in relevant fields, such as Content Classification, Content Strategy, Standards & Practices, Crisis Response, Policy/Legal Operations, and/or Kids & Family Content Analysis
5+ years experience managing teams
Excellent project/program management skills, and/or a proven track record for operational excellence
Experience working with classifiers and classification systems
Experience building a team from scratch: hiring and managing high performers
Knowledge of, and adherence to, global ratings boards’ standards and requirements
Strong public presentation, negotiation, and public presentation skills
Experience working with non-western cultures and knowledge of cultural content concerns
Proficiency in languages other than English is a plus
Experience managing content in languages other than English a plus
Experience with A-B testing is preferred
Critical thinking/problem solving skills and an aptitude for analyzing trends in data
