At Netflix, we are passionate about delivering the best viewing experience to our members, no matter what they watch, where they watch, or how they watch. We care about video quality, whether you are home watching Our Planet on the latest 4K HDR TV, or viewing Stranger Things over a cellular network while commuting to work. This means that we need every bit of our video streams to count and constantly improve on our video encoding and processing algorithms.
We are looking for a Senior Research Scientist in Video Encoding to help us address these challenges, as well as drive strategic research in the field.
As a Senior Research Scientist for Video Encoding, you will be responsible for designing and prototyping encoding algorithms that can improve the quality, or reduce the bandwidth requirements, of our video streams. You will study current codec implementations and find areas for improvement in quality and speed. You will have the opportunity to conduct research on next-generation image and video coding, collaborate with academic research groups and participate in research conferences and standardization meetings. You will work closely with other research scientists and software engineers so that your cutting-edge encoding algorithms can be implemented at-scale and across our wide range of content.
As Senior Research Scientist for Video Encoding, you get to work on exciting video encoding problems while knowing that you are making Netflix videos smoother, crisper and more engaging for millions of people worldwide.
You are a Senior Research Scientist with a successful track record in Video Coding research or adjacent fields (Video Processing, Computer Vision, Video Quality) - with research publications or standard contributions or products to demonstrate your work. You possess a solid understanding of video compression and are proficient in software development.
With your clear vision of the big picture and motivation to work on difficult problems in the space, you are ready to roll-up your sleeves to experiment, prototype and enhance your software development skills. You thrive in a fast-paced environment and are constantly striving to improve yourself and the team. You are excited to apply your expertise to impact what millions of people watch every day.
