The Globalization team is responsible for translation and cultural adaptation of most things Netflix creates, from beautiful user interfaces to cinematic original programming. This is not just about translation, it's about providing our audience with an experience that feels local. We are doing this at scale, while managing to treat each country differently. 

Our team is looking for an experienced Regional Language Manager to manage the localization strategy and resources for several Indian languages on our product and content, from our office in Mumbai. This highly motivated individual will report into the leadership team based in California and work closely with the rest of the Globalization team in the US, Asia and Europe. 


  • Provide cultural & linguistic consultancy, localization advocacy, and influence other teams at Netflix (in the region and the US) in order to deliver the best possible user experience to our Indian members. 
  • Drive the language strategy of local languages subtitling in Netflix Original and licensed content.
  • Drive the language strategy of local languages for the localized product experience in India. 
  • Help define the Netflix content and product localization strategy in India.
  • Work closely with our International Dubbing team to influence the language strategy of local language dubbed assets for Netflix branded and unbranded content in India.  
  • Gain deep product knowledge and awareness of product and content data for the Indian region and define quality expectations through research and A/B testing.
  • Work closely with our vendors’ Language Leads to define and monitor quality standards for each language in your region.
  • Develop a regional language strategy, using localization vendors and freelance resources, by building, training and maintaining translation and review teams for each of the languages/markets supported.
  • Define linguistic standards across the whole localized user experience (product and content), including supporting the development of style guides, glossaries, tone and voice of Netflix product and content in India.
  • Work closely with Globalization cross-functional teams to anticipate, identify and fix linguistic, product, subtitling and dubbing issues related to your region.
  • Provide creative input in adapting content linked to high priority Netflix titles, in close partnership with the regional Marketing teams in our Singapore and Mumbai offices.
  • Focus on regional product initiatives and customizations, proactively engage with internal and regional stakeholders to create an optimized and consistent local user experience and ecosystem for our Indian members.
  • Facilitate collaboration between internal stakeholders (in Singapore and Mumbai) and Vendor Leads and teams, making sure the necessary resources have access to the relevant information, and advising on best course of action regarding localization processes.
  • Collaborate closely with other Globalization Language Managers and internal stakeholders (e.g. Globalization Program Managers, Content Acquisition teams) to collect relevant cultural and linguistic information about Netflix Indian International Originals content and support the localization effort to bring this content to a global audience.

Role Requirements

  • 5+ years experience experience in language or localization resource management - experience in entertainment localization and subtitling/dubbing a must. 
  • Strong business acumen and proven stakeholder management skills.
  • Fluency in English and native knowledge of at least one Indian local language (Hindi, Tamil or Telugu preferred) 
  • Strong knowledge of the movie/entertainment industry in the Indian market
  • Proven experience in the subtitling or dubbing space in India. 
  • Experience in creative writing and media/journalism a plus.
  • Deep understanding of localization specificities and pitfalls.
  • Ability to show initiative and work independently. 
  • Strong business acumen and proven stakeholder management skills.
  • Eagerness to embrace a culture of candid feedback
  • Excellent presentation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to travel often in region (between Singapore and Mumbai) as well as to the US on a regular basis.
