Senior Software Engineer - VFX/Animation Configuration Management

Netflix is the leading provider of streaming video, a lot of it is original content: features, shorts, series, documentaries, comedy specials and unscripted content. 
Providing solutions to these productions which enable creatively fulfilling and efficient workflows is what we do in Post Production Engineering. We partner with the studio to provide a wide range of solutions for the creative process. These encompass workflow implementations for everything from data management, project tracking, data transformation and asset sharing.  Our tools span the entire length of the post production process from on-set to delivery. Our team is a diverse group of engineers, designers and industry experts building solutions to enable content creation across the globe.
As Netflix creates more and more programming around the world leveraging new video and audio production technology, the studio’s internal production infrastructure needs are rapidly expanding and evolving to support creative development and production execution. Cutting edge software will need to be delivered anywhere in the world content is being created. It must be optimized for stability and scoped to the type of work being done.  This role offers a clean slate and the opportunity to invent the future.

As part of the Post Production Engineering group, you will:

  • Deliver creative tools to film makers across the globe
  • Removing barriers to collaboration enabling creative freedom and new types of stories
  • Develop efficient, scalable tool to resolve and distribute client software and configurations
  • Merge Netflix and Third party software, optimizing performance for the user experience
  • Tame complex software dependencies
  • Devise robust testing and deployment strategies for scale
  • Lead cross-functional initiatives working with bright engineers across organizations
  • Contribute to a services architecture that will enable globally distributed teams


  • You have managed software configuration at large scale studios in the Animation or VFX space
  • You have experience with CI/CD using tools such as Jenkins
  • You have experience python, shell scripting and interacting with REST APIs
  • You have experience scripting for applications such as Maya and Nuke
  • You understand the challenges of distributed computing and know how to code for REST APIs, fault tolerance and scalability
  • You are keen to share your domain knowledge with a diverse group of Engineers.
  • You have the ability to clearly articulate and document technical processes.
  • You have excellent communication skills.

  • Experience with java and/or node.js
  • Experience with AWS
  • Experience with titus, spinaker or other Netflix OSS
  • Contributor to open source projects
  • You love movies!
