Netflix makes up 1/3 of internet traffic in North America. Behind the scenes, streaming video is delivered by Open Connect, our custom-built content delivery network that connects award-winning content to over 130 million members around the world. All that traffic makes for rich, massive datasets that allow us to paint a picture of our members’ Netflix experience, and how it’s affected by the engineering systems that support it.
Netflix’s data-driven culture drives our success, and our Science & Analytics team tackles critical projects to uncover, share and automate insights. We are investing tremendously in measuring and understanding new areas and enabling scalable, self-service access to data insights. We partner closely with Open Connect engineers and executives to guide their strategic decisions through analytic thought leadership and high-impact, scalable data solutions. Current challenges for us: What architectural changes should we pursue to make content delivery more cost-effective and improve the viewing experience? How should we measure hardware and software performance, and what causes failures to happen?
What we’re looking for
Passion for solving real-world problems through analytics, tooling, and visualization, and an eye for identifying new analytic opportunity
Expertise in SQL, programming (e.g. Python, Scala), ETL and data warehousing concepts at scale (TBs of data)
Strong communication with technical and non-technical audiences
Ability to develop meaningful stakeholder relationships
Good judgment to make tradeoffs in technology and impact: when is a scrappy solution the right solution?
Comfort with ambiguity; able to thrive with minimal oversight and process
Netflix's culture is key to our success. We celebrate diversity, recognizing that diversity of thought and background builds stronger teams, and we approach inclusion equally seriously and thoughtfully. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.
