Content Engineering (CE) develops technology and operations for most aspects of streaming content that make Netflix a great global service. We power discovery, personalization, video encoding and quality, internationalization, localization, and marketing for the best streaming library in the world.  Every day, we solve complex problems around scalability and global content and innovate on the tool's, data model, and pipeline that make up our content platform.

We are building a studio in the cloud and pioneering new approaches to movie production, optimizing pitches, production schedules, subtitling, and digital asset management for our Original content.

The Opportunity:
The Support team in Content Engineering is looking for a talented Senior Software Engineer to support, automate, and report on various upstream data within Netflix.  You will be expected to be show thought leadership and partner effectively with our Content Engineering teams to push the business towards better metrics and more efficient systems.

In this role, you will:

  • Play a critical role in creating reliable and intuitive reports that allow our stakeholders to easily leverage data across domains in a self-service manner
  • React quickly to diagnose and troubleshoot problems in the pipeline.
  • Investigate existing code and contribute fixes if applicable.
  • Provide recommendations to the development teams for new workflows and features.
  • Work with teams to solve productivity challenges and drive efficiency in the pipeline.

About you:

  • 5+ years of object oriented programming experience in a JVM language
  • Strong familiarity with RDBMS schema design, SQL query language and working with raw and, at times, sparse data for operational reporting needs
  • Experience working with big data tech stack, ETL procedures, and data presentation tools like Tableau
  • Excellent written communication, problem solving, and process management skills
  • Desire to work in a fast paced, evolving, growing, and dynamic environment
  • Curiosity to explore new ideas and passion to make them happen
  • BS/MS in Computer Science (or equivalent)

Bonus Points:

  • Experience with Cloud Computing platforms (e.g. Amazon AWS, Eucalyptus, etc.)
  • Scripting experience - python, bash
  • Web development - HTML, Javascript, CSS
  • API Integration
