The product team at OpenSesame is responsible for developing our strategic roadmap and delivering high-value products and features for our customers. We define, design, launch and support the OpenSesame platform with learning administrators and individual learners. We are obsessed with delivering a fantastic customer experience. 

About the Job

The Associate Product Manager role lives in the gap between what customers want and the delivery of tangible product features. You translate customer needs and product strategy into the functional and technical details that allow engineering to build software. 

Performance Objectives

Within 90 days, an Associate Product Manager at OpenSesame will serve as the Product Owner for one of our Scrum teams: 

  • Work with clients, product management, business stakeholders and software engineering teams to identify and define user stories for building product features that contribute to the team and company OKRs
  • Work closely with product management, product design, and engineering to ensure your user stories are built to meet key stakeholder objectives and fulfill OKRs.

Within 6 months

  • Lead delivery of product roadmap features across all company disciplines to ensure successful feature launches
  • Develop, maintain, and analyze feature and team metrics to guide decisions.
  • Research partnership opportunities to determine the right technology vendors to integrate with to complement our platform

Role Specific Job Duties

  • Convey the vision of the product to the engineering teams, prioritize the team's backlog and set direction for product releases and sprints
  • Create clear product requirements as well as understand and negotiate technical implementation options with engineering to make decisions based on customer and business needs.
  • Validate product requirements with internal stakeholders and our customer journey, negotiating any issues or concerns that would diminish feature success. 
  • Responsible for the preparation for, and participation in, sprint planning, including defining sprint goals, ensuring user stories are ready to work on, and having detailed acceptance criteria.
  • Partner with product leadership to help define why and when certain product needs should be addressed, assisting in roadmap development and planning activities
  • Work with Engineering on the bug triage process, assessing impact, ensuring clear communication, customer impact, etc.
  • Ensure that Scrum team deliverables meet agreed-upon standards for quality and non-functional requirements, and that the products meet the stated business need
  • Ensure the product functionality is appropriately documented, including knowledge base articles and release notes
  • Provide Product Managers with technical information coming out of the Scrum process that may impact the product backlog or needs to be considered on a future roadmap
  • Analyzes metrics and analytics to make data informed product decisions, as well as improving the efficiency and predictability of their agile team execution.
  • Keeps pulse on the customers, anticipates bottlenecks and takes acceptable risks to maximize the benefit for our customer and business

Required Skills/Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field preferred
  • 1-2 years experience as a Product Owner or Business Analyst (or equivalent customer-facing role), Enterprise SaaS platforms preferred
  • Experience in elearning industry a big plus
  • Demonstrated success in releasing products that meet and exceed business objectives.
  • Excellent detailed written and verbal communication skills, possibly including some user interface documentation skills.
  • Subject matter expertise in the particular product or market and how to develop solutions for this market. Subject matter expertise should include specific industry or technical knowledge.
  • Excellent teamwork skills especially with people less skilled in communication.
  • Proven ability to influence cross-functional teams without formal authority. The ability to influence and work collaboratively with development teams is especially important.
