The Role
Optimus Ride is seeking a motivated and technical field service engineer to help scale our fleet of autonomous vehicles. You will integrate with the team based in our Boston HQ and support deployments through remote and on-site vehicle work and training of local deployment staff.


  • Provide customer support through the performance of on-site training of staff, as well as overseeing any necessary diagnoses, troubleshooting, service, and repair of complex electromechanical systems
  • Perform testing, support failure diagnosis and review and implement corrective action
  • Perform retrofits, preventive maintenance and in-field service including installation of software technical updates
  • Act as the primary technical support contact for field locations
  • Provide feedback to local site operations, support deployed vehicles and gather product failure data and deficiencies
  • Provide feedback to design teams as end user representative. Communicate deficiencies, desired updates, and configuration change requests on software and hardware systems
  • Maintain accurate records of repairs and configurations in accordance with customer program requirements


  • Strong technical background including ability to diagnose advanced sensors, computer systems, actuators, and networking equipment
  • Strong communication skills, especially in terms of remotely coaching associates of varying experience in troubleshooting and repairs
  • Able to work under pressure and in an environment where priorities can change frequently
  • Comfortable operating tools working in, around, and under a car
  • Able to complete a visual assessment of the vehicle and/or parts
  • Ability to travel 25-30%, including on short notice
  • Able to lift and transfer a 40lb object


  • Experience working with automated vehicles and/or robotics
  • Familiarity with electro-mechanical systems
  • Familiarity with electrical cable assembly techniques, including soldering
